Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I especially like the last one.
The empty terrace behind Robbie takes from the image, I think.

It does, I tried to get a spot on the corner facing into the Hogan/Cusack stand but they were all taken. It's the best we could hope for :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

You'd really want to get in early to get your spot.
Not so bad on Saturday, but the Germany game was mental and I'd expect the home game against Italy to be as bad.

We were there a couple of hours before kick off but at half time with the rush up to the opposite end, we didn't have much room to pick and choose a place.

    That's a right balls!
From what I saw on your camera, you had one, or two contenders.

The 'ole chestnut again but for me they are cropped way too tight, if they're for a newspaper they wouldn't be here right?
It doesn't capture the feel of the wider action of the game...
Every time sports togs put pics up here it's the same type of shots.

Paulw, when you're there as a photographer, you just have to hope you get the right action. The challenges and tackles were well timed and often crunching.
There are very few games in the LoI where you get the same calibre of action. You'd be lucky to get one clean sliding tackle in a game.
There are also very few players in Ireland who are as strong as Petrov on the ball.
That's what makes for good pictures.

Ye were so so lucky ye had something to do to keep yere mind off the game. It was the most depressing **** I have seen in ages.

The type that would be used for the papers/websites, etc??

There's no real reason why an image posted here would not also be sent to papers or used by papers. That would be down to the photographer's licensing agreement.

I'd post stuff here that I would also sell to clubs or papers. They're my images and I own the copyright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

But you could also post some here that you don't have to sell?
Just to vary the same pics we get here, also most people in this comp don't sell to newspapers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

I don't really follow what you're asking for.

Surely the aim of any photographer is to produce an image that is properly prepared (edited, cropped, adjusted) and ready for print (either online, for yourself or by newspapers)? That would be the difference between just taking a photo, and posting it unprocessed, and then taking and posting a properly processed image.

    What action? :P

Are you really saying you can't work outside the parameters of the "newspaper Photo journo" mindset?
Some shots with the 16-35 that you possess would be interesting no?

It's like this golden rule that only close cropped up shots with ball is acceptable.
    It gets tedious!

When I shoot gigs I don't just shoot the vocalists!
I try to mix and match it up...

    1) Vocalist
    2) Dual vocalists
    3) Vocalist+crowd
    4) Other band members with their chosen instrument.

I shall look through peoples pixies now to explain (hopefully) of the type of shot that should be thrown in just to vary the pics you guys normally post up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

Am I allowed to post images here if I credit whoever took them?
They won't know I'm using them.

But, you only shoot musicians??? In sport, you photograph the players.

Some images have the ball, others don't. Some show the emotion of the players, some are of the crowds, etc. Many of those type are posted here too.

I don't get it. There's nothing that different in those examples, from the ones posted in this thread, other than the scenes are wider. It's more down to the selection of photos posted as opposed to the crop of the images.

    What about images like

    3394863406_507468e434.jpg

    Or

    3394060901_709a54092a.jpg

Is that along the lines of what you're talking about???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

Yeah they are wider, you're getting there. :p
BTW I am not saying you or the others can't do them but I am saying what you post up here is always the really tight cropped ones!
Seriously it's just something that I wanted to get off my chest.
Did you look at all the links!!

Again, it's all a matter of preference and choice. I, and I'm sure the others too, would have wider shots of scenes, etc, but only a small number of images taken would be processed, and a much smaller selection posted here. It's just down to what people think are their good shots, etc.

I did look at all the links. One or two I might disagree with the crop, but then again, that would be my choice. The photographer has the right to process and crop any way they like.

Nothing wrong with a debate about style or choice of photos.

Kinda, I linked the ones earlier (esp when I added the comments in brackets)

I also like the rawness of newbie sport togs, while they are not newspaper standards they do capture the grassroots of the game too.

I assumed when you said about Pauls 16-35 you meant like very wide shots,Those are just slightly wider than what kensutz originally posted .

    Ok let me explain...

You referred to pauls 16-35 saying he could get wider shots with it which would be nice,But then you post 9 link's to images which are shot at 200-300 mm i was expecting to see wide angle shots as that is said to paul...

And the above images have little difference to kensutz pics other than a slightly closer crop

There were virtually none with 16-35 shots to find!
I remember Paul posting that shot before with the 16-35, why I mentioned it.

The majority of the pics I picked were nowhere near as tight as Kens.
