EU Rejects '3 Strikes' for File-Sharers

    The European Parliament has approved a report which goes against the French plan to implement a ‘3 strikes’ regime for alleged P2P copyright infringers. The proposals to increase security and ensure freedom on the Internet were accepted, but disconnecting users from the Internet was ruled out.

    I knew it would be rejected on a EU level, Eircom are a pack of poor cowards.

    How could disconnecting people from internet access ever be a solution.

    Eircom dug themselves into a hole and had no choice. Basically one of their executives wrote an email effectively condoning piracy which IRMA got hold of, and so they would have been hammered in court.

    Not quite, the EU have accepted the report. The vote is yet to come.
    Expect intensive lobbying from the French between now and the vote.
