Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Who's going to PhotoFest on Sunday?

If you have not been before, the seminars are worth the €10 entrance fee alone.

I've been to this for the last few years and it's a great day out ... informative and good quality seminars, if perhaps repetitive ...

a word to the wise though ... be careful parking ... there were a s**tload of people clamped for illegal parking last year ... and the venue has very limited parking at best ... although there is a shuttle bus from somewhere .... I'll see if I can find the link ...

Went this morning for a couple of hours. Guy Gowan was his usual brilliant self. Great to have a chap who starts early and goes overtime just because he likes what he does. If only my mind could keep up with his.

The Canon Flash chap was a bit of a bluffer though. I thought he would show how exactly to set up multiple flashes, instead he had pre prepared the setup, just let everyone have a go and answered questions. A bit of a powerpoint presentation on setup would have been welcome. Still his was worth it just to look at Christina the model.

dammit ... forgot about by the clocks changing ... not enough time now!

Was there for a while this morning. Nothing major there to see.

Had a good word with the guys from Photo-Shield insurance. They seemed to be doing well.

Canon had the 5D MkII to show, as did some of the retails stores. No great special offers either.

    Ah well, worth the visit.

Sitting here waiting to order lunch.

I am always amazed at how easy Guy Gowan makes it all look. If you spend the time it does become easy, it just takes time & breaking bad habits.

Seen a few Boardies floating around, some with bags containing expensive toys!!

Just back myself, got the guy gowan dvd's for a bargain.. Met CabanSail (he had forgtten who I was all because I had may hair different.)

Saw a 70-300mm IS on a 40d it was much lighter than I thought it'd be. It's added another possibility instead of the 70-200mm.

Guy Gowan just made it all look easy. (I was on the Sony guest list so I didn't pay, I love free stuff.)

Not long home myself.. Took in 2 seminars, Nikon Off Camera Flash and Graphi Studio. Walked around the hall twice or three times, saw more stuff I want so had to leave!! Didn't get to meet any boardsies :(

I stopped in for a couple of hours and was quite impressed. My first time going and wasn't expecting the world.

I finally got try out a Nikon 200mm f2.0. Got to check out some nice Sony stuff & had chat with some vendors that I was genuinely interested in.

I honestly got more out of it in less than 2 hours than I did a full day at focus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Carrigman

I enjoyed the event and would go again. The seminars in particular were well worth the visit. Guy Gowan's demonstrations on what could be done with a RAW file in Photoshop were very impressive.I picked up very good tips from Dublin photographer Kevin Cummins in his seminar on an introduction to portrait lighting and for my money his was the best of the lot.

    LOL, well, aside from that.

I didn't spot any other boards people that I know, unfortunately.

I was very impressed by Guy Gowan, had seen him before, amazing what a difference all the subtle changes make to an image. Based on the fact that his actions are not a commercial product, does anyone happen to have his actions they could email?
    Thanks,
    Q.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 9,047 CMod ✭✭✭✭CabanSail

When Guy emails his actions, he includes a condition that you are allowed personal use of the actions, but not allowed to distribute them. (I could look back & get the exact quote)

This is like someone here giving someone limited rights to use a photograph. As photographers we do not like our images being used without our consent. I would think that Guy Gowan would be much the same with his scripts.

I have spent some time talking to Guy & he is very generous with his time. When I arrived at PhotoFest he was standing just inside the entrance after registration. He saw me before I saw him & said hello & before I could ask he said "I must be due to make another visit to your camera club" He does these session for free & doesn't hold back information, but does have to make a living too. His income is from his DVD Sales & paid Tutorials.

I ask that you respect the conditions under which these scripts are distributed as you would the use of someone elses images.
