One of the things that came up in the husts for CSO and President is the lack of variety of gigs in UL. Current CSO asked what other acts we could get and I'd reccommend he and the ents crew check out this link http://www.dolanspub.com/event.php

Over the three months March - May, Dolan's are getting BellX1, Delorentos, The Stone Roses, Messiah J, Duke Special, Sharon Shannon, FRED and Des Bishop among many others.

Most of the above are v popular, played ****** etc

If they're willing to come to Limerick we should be able to get them to UL, and if they can get crowds in Dolan's I don't understand how they couldn't get them out here if properly promoted...

Having been on one of the campaign teams, Dolans may be an option for city gigs. It certainly warrants further thought.

A lot of them played in UL this year already. Des Bishop was in the UCH a few weeks ago, Delorentos played last semester and Fred played UL twice this year and will be playing again in RAG week. It's all in the RAG week thread as well!

i have a few comments on this

    1. Dolans as a venue has a capacity of 350 people that the reason we don't do gigs in there and we'd have to rent it as opposed ti using the venue on our doorstep. The Jean Monnet and the Stables

    2. Because the UCH is on campus a lot of acts will do gigs there and refuse to do student gigs in UL because they will affect their sales for the UCH gig this especially applies to the comedy acts such as Des bishop , Neil Delamre etc.

    3. a lot of the reason for gigs happening /not happening is budget....
check out the dolans prices......(our prices in brackets)

    des bishop €24
    stone roses experience €17
    delorentos €14 (7)
    Andrew Maxwell €15 (10)
    fred €12 (free & 10)
    sharon shannon €24
    bell x1 €35
    Blizzards €24 (15 & 20)

I know we have a venue that gives us twice the capacity of Dolans but that does not necessarily mean that we can charge half the price as acts feel they need to charge a certain ticket charge to maintain the brand.

the costs associated with running the bigger venue are also very high and mean that it is hard to break even not to mind make money on the bigger gigs unless they sell out..

as for variety if you were to compare our schedule to any other ents schedule in the country then only UCD is ahead of us and thats a marginal call no one else has the variety or frequency of acts that UL has...
