Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hello everyone here, since it is a general thread I think my question should be just alright here. I'd like to ask if there are some (if any) foreign nationals serving in PSNI?
I know there are some in mainland UK service, but never heard anything about PSNI.
I'm originally from Lithuania myself, but have already decided to stay here for good, therefore looking for a career that i would love and enjoy working, PSNI seems to be just what I was looking for.
P.S. Since english isn't my native language, does anyone know about any classes you could get to prepare for AC roleplays and interviews?

Hi Mika, before you get to the role plays and interviews etc. How is your understanding of written english? It will need to be of a good standard to understand the paragraphs at the IST as they can be ambiguous and a pain in the rear when trying to decide if its true, false or cant say. Not sure about classes, it probably depends where you are living at the minute. Do you mean english classes or classes to help prepare for the Assessment Centre?

Well i do read all the written english with no problems.
I've done the practise IST test, with all questions answered correctly within a time limit, the real one, sure, will be much more complicated, but the ones I'm doing online are going quite well, so I'm not too worried about the IST test so much (though probably I should be :D)
The courses I'd be looking for is something to prepare for AC itself.
I'm in midlands, so I'm not expecting any classes to be found anywhere close to me :)

You just go for it. Take general english classes and good for you. The EU was created for this purpose and theres nothing to say you dont possess the skills and knowledge to be a cons in the PSNI. If the tables were turned i dont think i would learn your launguage as quick. I admire your ambition mika. And I wish you success and hope you have a really good experince of joining. Cue leaky bucket...And group hugs. God help anyone in my squad. Group hug overload.

And you Mika. And there are a lot of people like me about. I think N Ireland is very unique. Im a home girl and I love my home very much. I think we have a very special place and youre very welcome into it. You have a positive role to play here and dont underestimate yourself. If anything you are a very welcome positive. You just do your best and youll get there if youre comitted. Best of luck to you.

Also. just wanna add? I had a wrong idea about police role when i was growing up. N Ireland has got a rough ride media wise. Sometimes its justified. Lot of times not. But I believe the people here deserve better. I know I joke and make light. But I really feel that the ppl of n ireland are the best. I love here. And if anyone can make it better then thats only a good thang.

Just a wee question for someone who has already had their SID.... The two passport photos we have to bring,do we have to be wearing a white shirt in them like it says for the SID photo or can you just wear a tshirt?

When I was growing up, NI seemed to me like a very hostile place. Now, when things have changed there a little bit and I have visited it myself multiple times, it doesn't look that bad at all:)
Though after recent incidents and RIRA comments in the press my girlfriend is quite worried, how life would be thereand if the old days could come back with all the bombing and killing.
As for a PSNI, my personal opinion would be, that it's a very interesting, rewarding, but difficult job. It's all because you have to be rather cautions about your actions because of complicated baground and current situation, plus everyone is watching you and if you do your job properly it's ok, because that's the way it should be. Though if you make a mistake reactions from public and media are rather unfriendly.
I'm open to corrections, as this is only my point of view :)

Its all down to operational needs. You get to put down up to 4 choices of district but in the end it all comes down to operational needs. If you want E district and they dont need anybody in E district then obviously you wont get E district.

You'll find out what station you're going to at some stage after you have been told your district.

Of course they try and keep your station location as reasonable as possible. The people involved in the distribution of skulls over the organisation are no fools either and know that someone who's quite happy with their location will quite likely perform better. But as BoutYe said : operational needs determine your posting.
