Would lentils be considered low GI and Low Carb, i.e. are they suitable for losing body fat?

Yup, depending on the type of lentil GI rating is between 25-30. While lentils are still classified as a carb, they are one of the better sources, as they are high in protein and fibre, low in GI, so they'll make you feel fuller for longer, and are good for B vitamins and shouldn't raise your blood sugar much. They aren't a complete protein though so you'll need to combine with other foods.

Hopefully someone more knowlegable about fat loss will come along soon and tell you more about the fat loss aspect :)

They are one of the odd ones, high carb but low gi.

Typically 100g of cooked lentils is about 21g of carbs, 9g of protein.
100g of dry lentils is 57g carbs, 28g protein. This varies depending on the type.

So yes, very good for a cutting diet.
