Dundrum is a pretty good area.

Traffic around the town centre does get busier of a Saturday certainly but that isn't to say it's light on weekdays. I have no idea what a weekday drive would be like to D2 but the LUAS is available and will get you in in approx. 25 mins, maybe less.

    Great place to live!

You'll be right beside Dundrum Town Centre and the Luas, which are two brilliant resources to have so close. It's only really busy on a Saturday, during the week it's a bit busy in the mornings but quietens up afterwards and isn't so bad in the evening. It's just because the M50 is only up the road anyway.

In terms of primary schools, Taney is just beside Dundrum's main street and is generally considered a great primary. There's a few catholic primary schools further up by Sandyford that don't have a great reputation, however, so tread cautiously if heading up that direction.

It's a fantastic area to live in and can't see it changing any time soon.

The traffic on all approaches to Dundrum are awful in the evening rush hour

Unless you are CofI you have no chance of getting your child into Taney, if you are you have little

Thought St Tiernans had a good rep
It's a fantastic area to live in and can't see it changing any time soon.

The deterioration of Main st due to Joe O'Reillys arsing around with Phase 2 of the shopping centre is a hugh draw back, the recently passed monstrous plans of the second phase and its five year development phase is going to happen soon and is going to change things but will probably have a lesser effect at the Balally end

Having said that if you work in D2 the luas is ideal although usually very uncomfortable between 7.45 and 9am into town and 5-6.45pm. While there are lots of supermarket options in the area they are actually quite poor and we often find ourselves going to Cornelscourt for the weekly shop. The Tescos in Dundrum SC is awful, Dunnes in Sandyford is pretty crap, useless between Mon-Weds, Superquinn in Ballenteer is pretty useless as well. Ladies clothes shopping is what the centre is about, don't expect to be able to go in there to buy power tools

But the cinema pretty good and restaurent scene isn't bad and you can always hop on the Luas to Ranelagh and the whole area is pretty safe

St. Tiernans is a good school. It's a secondary school though, not primary (I went there).

There are other primary schools near enough at hand as well; St. Attractus in Ludford, Scoil Naithi (sp?) gaelscoil just beside it, the national school in Ballinteer.

Secondary schools? Take your pick; St. Tiernans, Ballinteer Community School, Wesley College, St. Benildus is on the LUAS line.

I know there are other primary & secondary schools in the area that I'm missing.
Having said that if you work in D2 the luas is ideal although usually very uncomfortable between 7.45 and 9am into town and 5-6.45pm.

If you are reliant on the LUAS for your morning commute around 8-9am, get on at the Ballaly stop. By the time you get to Dundrum it'll be hit or miss as to whether or not you get on at times.

All in all, it's a good area. It's safe by and large and you've got large green areas near at hand as well as the mountains not far off either if you're the outdoor type.

One thing though ... the area around Dundrum centre (including the Wickham bypass) can be a bit of an absolute f*cker to negotiate in a car at times around Christmas courtesy of the shopping centre. There are routes that you can take to mitigate it to a point, but living close to a shopping centre does have it's drawbacks although on the whole, the area has far more positive than negative marks going for it.
