Does anyone have any suggestions of clubs or activities where I can meet some new people and (hopefully) make some friends in the South Dublin City area?

I was thinking about getting involved in a sports club but coming into the summer a lot of these will be wrapping up.

    Any ideas or advice?

    What are your interests?

    Now there's a good question! :)

I like art and craft, I like all sports, I like reading and I like films. So basically, everything! I used to be involved in hockey when I last lived in Dublin but seasons over now.

I'm a mid 20's female, and was hoping to make some female friends as I'm the only girl at work...

Any recommendations for local groups. Going to be moving to the Portobello/Rathmines area soon from town.

Athletics clubs would run through the summer if you could find a club.
Possibly martial arts but wouldn't know. I'm not really in the right position to be helping here being a guy from the northside. :p

League Of Ireland football is only started this last few weeks, you have Shamrock Rovers just moved into Tallaght, or UCD in Belfield, or St Pats in Inchicore.

    :)

Meet people also into sports, and don't mind the tabloid reports on hooligans, I go every week and never encounter trouble.
    ...

I know a GlasnevinRed from another forum, is it you?

    Indeed it is Des.

Would have mentioned the LOI but Tallaght, Inchicore and Belfield aren't great places to meet girls;)

Thanks for the tips GlasnevinRed, despite your location :)

I think I'll pop by the UCD Sports Centre to see if there's any notices up there advertising any clubs or groups.

Does anyone know of any local craft groups or book clubs or anything like that? I can't do all my socialising through the internet after all! :)

if you're vaguely sporty at all (or in fact not) and in Rathmines try giving netball a go

haven't been there in a few years but when I did go the crowd was good craic, a good mix and pretty sociable and the southside venue is St Mary's in Rathmines

PS it's mixed but tended to be mostly girls, maybe 3:1 girls to guys (it being netball and all that..!)

Have a look around on this site Fletch as I think there are hill walking, cycling and footie meet ups that are supposed to be very sociable. There could be pub action too.

Any more info. on this, Location, set up & fees etc?
Only so much week night tv viewing i can put up with. :)

Leinster Cricket Club is at Observatory Lane, Rathmines (off Lower Rathmines Road). It's down the laneway where the Thinkbikes cycle shop is. There's been a substantial reduction in membership fees this year and more details can be found here. I've been a member there for many years so feel free to PM me if you need any further information.
