    Hi All,

I’ve just come across this website which apparently shops the market for you in relation to finding the best price for a particular book.
    http://www.find-book.co.uk/

All delivery charges relate to the UK only and so I’m putting together a list of up to date delivery charges to Ireland that different retailers charge.

So far I have come up with following. If you happen to know any others, feel free to share.

Thanks In Advance for all contributions.

    1. Sendit.com – Free delivery to Ireland (Pay in sterling to avoid uncompetitive euro/sterling rate)
    2. TheBookDepository.co.uk- Free delivery to Ireland.
    3. TheHut.com – Stg0.99p delivery charge to Ireland.
    4. Play.com- “Free” delivery to Ireland but compulsory excessive Euro/Stg exchange which can amount to a sizable delivery charge.
    5. Amazon.co.uk- Stg0.99p delivery per item subject to min charge Stg3.99p charge per order.
    6. BooksUnlimited.ie- €5.50 delivery for first 2 books, €2.50 per book thereafter.

Barnes & Noble will ship here. I have used them previously for hard to find stuff. One of the largest selections of books, music & DVDs that I have seen anywhere.

Delivery is not cheap at $12.90, but the fact that stock is at US prices offsets some of it.

cdwow.ie also do books with free delivery, never tried them for books so not sure of their service.

Cds can take from 3 days to months for delivery if they are out of stock which you have no way of knowing.

    http://www.bookfinder.com/ is another useful site.
You tell it what country you want your book delivered to and it will search amazon, abebooks and others. Orders everything by total price including delivery and if the book is new or second hand. Very handy for sites that have different delivery charges depending on the location of the seller

Careful! I just checked a book I bought recently from Amazon. The bookfinder site's price was the quoted Amazon price ok, but Amazon added €2.99 to that for delivery. I sent bookfinder a comment, we'll see.

    Thanks for all responses.

Here’s more that I have since come across.

www.thebookpeople.ie – Free Delivery on orders over €55

www.thebookpeople.co.uk – Delivery €7.99 but books can be half the price of the Irish Site.

    www.eason.ie – First Book €4, Each Subsequent Book €2

I've just experimented with bookfinder. I have just bought a book at thebookdepository.co.uk for €13.65 which has a lowest price on bookfinder of €15.59, coming from Amazon Germany. Just to point out it's certainly a useful site but not a definitive one. It's probably a good idea to use it in conjunction with all the free/low cost delivery websites to find the best value.

cdWow used be free afair, but not any more. From their website:
Our database is regularly updated based on current availability information supplied by publishers and book distributors. Books can and do sometimes become temporarily unavailable whilst reprinting, or they may go out of print without prior notice from the publisher.

Books incur shipping charges, based on destination country, as outlined below. All other products offered by CD-WOW! do not attract this charge and in most instances are delivered with Free Shipping.

    Delivery to: UK
    1st book: £1.20
    Each additional: £0.50
    Delivery to: ROI / European
    1st book: £4.99
    Each additional: £1.50
    Deliver to: Rest of World
    1st book: £4.99
    Each additional: £2.65

Very disappointing. Standard £5 charge is quite steep, and there was no visible mention of a charge till i got to the checkout.

Just a little more info about The Book People (I think this thread should be stickied or copied and pasted into the Bargain Alerts resources thread). The charges above for The Book People are correct. Although they occasionally do promotional codes for reduced price or free delivery, including Ireland. They also sometimes offer a code to lower the order level for free delivery. So it's worth checking out before you order from them. For example, there was a free delivery code around for the month of January 2009.

You will find those codes posted here on Bargain Alerts, or on the HUKD (Hot UK Deals) web site. It's actually very simple to find them, just go to the HUKD web site and enter The Book People in the Voucher Finder box at the top right. If there are any current Book People voucher codes on offer, they'll be shown.

    play.com

    free delivery.

As stated in entry 1, beware of their compulsory excessive exchange rate which can pretty amount to a sizable eurozone delivery charge. Check out below example in relation to a DVD I bought.

    I use
    www.abebooks.co.uk
Shipping is roughly £2.50, with used books starting at 50p.
