I'm seriously considering buying one of these, for the parts alone.

    What do people think?

Eh, read the thread? There were several others too if you do a search.

Thanks mate. I've read that thread but its hard to find a concensus. The parts seems great but the frame looks like a let down.

I could get a bike with lesser parts and better frame, or vice versa.

I'm just a weekend cyclist but I'd like to get good value for money

Hi: From what I can understand, here is the deal.
    Price point is good.
    Components are good.
Frame - a complete unknown, with no reviews.

So, if you can get frame that is reputable for similar price and with similar components, then go for it.
It is not that this frame is a poor frame, merely that very few people seem to know anything abut it (lack of reviews, experience on it).

PM the guy who bought it and ask him what is it like.

Unfortunately there is no consensus. Personally I think it is a good deal and the frame while cheap is probably about as good as any other you will get around that price point. Others seem to think that the frame will break apart by the end of the first week. The fork is reputable if that is any help. The groupset and components are certainly good.

Asking at the end of the thread what we think about the bike, in a thread where everyone has already posted what they think about the bike, is unlikely to magically produce a consensus :)

Here's another (11 pager!) for you to read although it will probably only confuse you further (there are more if you search!)

I asked a bike shop mechanic about it and he said for the price its at, you're getting the frame and handlebars for free.

Saw one up by the Sally Gap last Sunday. Lidl bike rider was out in front of his group.

There don't seem to be many reviews by anyone who has actually bought the lidl road bike so I'll throw in my two cents worth. The ultegra gear as expected, works perfectly. The bike came fully set up and adjusted (just had to fit pedals, btw cleats included) The mystery frame is made in Germany, good quality on the welds and has mudguard lugs on the back, none on the carbon forks. Used it on the W200 last week and was impressed, especially with the handling on descents. Overall 9/10, lost a point for noname stem and seatpost.

I've tracked 1,700km on my lidl bike and both bicycle and rider are still in one piece. Also three of us in MCC now are owners of lidl bikes.
