April forecast contest -- enter by 2359h Wed 1st

Hey, I was hoping someone else would post the monthly quiz mostly because of the bonus question(s) because I don't have much of a clue what events could be used for those.

However, time marches on and so I thought I would post this today, looking for entries tonight or Wednesday for no penalty points, 10 points off if you show up after midnight (or on Thursday 2nd).

I've made up two bonus questions that at least require the usual sort of guess, although not in the context of any well-known events, if someone wants to change these before too many people have entered, be my guest.

    So, the contest requires:

    (1) Monthly mean temp (C) as an average of highest and lowest reported in the monthly summary.

    (2) Highest temp (C) of the month, scored in tenths of a degree.

    (3) Lowest temp (C) of the month, scored in tenths of a degree.

    (4) Highest temperature at Cork on Sunday 26th.

    (5) Monthly sunshine percentage of normal at Valentia ... express your forecast as a percentage, e.g., 205% (what an optimist) ... (5% intervals for scoring purposes).

Like I said, if somebody wants to change those bonus questions, I will then edit these to match. If you forecast these instead, we'll score them equally.

Hey there weather watchers, would anyone protest if I extended the deadline by one day to the end of the 2nd? I have the feeling that some of the regulars may not think of looking in until after midnight. If nobody objects, consider the deadline extended to 2359h Thursday 2nd, but after that no entries accepted without 10 pt penalty (all day 3rd) then nada.

I am updating the March scores, the information was posted on met.ie and I should have that done around 8 pm.

In general, I hope somebody else will take over the posting of the monthly questions (three of them are standard in any case), so I am just doing the scoring. Reason for that is mostly the bonus questions, somebody living in Ireland can probably come up with more interesting bonus questions than I can. We've already passed December and March, the two months where even I might know what to ask. :D

The highest temperature at Cork on the 26th was 10.4 C ... well below most of our prognostications. A fairly lenient marking system will be needed to reward our feeble efforts.

Can anyone suggest an event in May that might serve as the focus for our bonus question(s) for May? Preferably after the 8th to add a degree of difficulty (randomness?) ... thanks.

JD, are those your forecasts for May? If so, we have different bonus questions set up and you should have a look in that thread.

Any time today or tomorrow for your May forecasts, meanwhile, April scores should be posted this weekend sometime.
