Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

According to a friend of mine in the finance department, during the current discussion of measures for the emergency budget next week, there also was mention of a departure tax for motorhomes.

Like the ten euro departure tax at the airport, it is envisaged that every passenger leaving the country in a motorhome will be subject to a ten Euro tax, payable with the ferry ticket. So for a family of four, that's another 40 Euro for your trip to France.
The government expects to raise an additional 10-15 Million Euro per annum from this measure.

Now that's a great idea, the income generated could be used to create a few "aire de services" across the country. I heard they were also considering a motorhome toll to cross the Shannon at Athlone:D

10-15 million? Are there 1-1.5 mllion people in motorhomes leaving from Ireland every year? That sounds a lot. Or does that include car/bus/truck passengers too?

That would be great ...in theory ...but of course that money won't be ringfenced. Just like motor tax it'll all just disappear into a black hole somewhere but not fix a pothole ...so you can forget about your "aires" and graces :D
