Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've had a look through the FAQ but I didn't find what I was after.

Basically I'm looking for a site that explains the basic technical info regarding lenses, focal lengths etc. Does that make sense?

    i.e. I don't understand what a "50mm" lens is.

The focal length of a lens determines its angle of view, and also how much the subject will be magnified for a given photographic position.
The aperture range of a lens refers to the amount of light that the diaphragm can let inside the camera to reach the sensor.

The questions on "which lens" puzzle everybody. A 50mm prime is not as fashionable as it used to be, but is very useful, as this thread shows:

Kit lenses usually have a bit of zoom, which is more versatile for beginners like myself.

I was very puzzled by the language of photography, but several years chatting on the net has helped, especially when it comes to buying new equipment.

as they have a monthly photo competition.

Blather, who also has a Flickr account, is very helpful and has very inspirational work.
