Entrepreneurial and Biz Beers

    Hi all,

As a long time lurker on this forum, I'm noticing the level of activity going way up on this forum. The majority of it is down to people who want to start their own businesses which is great. As one who has been self employed for a few years I find meetups/networking events with other entrepreneurial sorts really energisising and inspirational. How about an Entrepreneurial Beers? This would be for anyone interested in startup/self employment (plus who ever else wants to come along). It wouldn't matter what work area, web, tech, sweet shop, carpentry... anything.

BTW I am aware of bizcamp, open coffee, connector, The Digital Island Meetup. They are all great, and I've attended them all.

    Feed back?

I think the level of networking has escalated over the last number of months. Seems to be the only business that has flourished of recent! The only problem is how do you seperate the good events from the not so good events. I have begun to experience an unfortunate trend at some of these events where people are only going with the intention to sell their wares and blatantly refuse to listen to what you might have to say.

I do so love these events though and something different might be interesting!!

That might be cool alright. Talk shop with people who have been through it / are starting on that road...Would need a bit of notice though because I also work full time and would need 2 days off so I can stay in Dublin (I presume it will be Dublin) - need to book them off. The joys of working for someone else......while also trying to work for yourself (got bills to pay though)!

    Well said OP.

This is a very common problem with networking which most "business gurus" or "business advisors" don't tell you about.

Finding the right group is essential.

I think it's a great idea but maybe make the focus of the session more sociable and state clearly something like "If you're looking to sell your wares try somewhere else". I'd be well up for meeting and chatting with people who are starting up and want some advice or who have been going for longer than me and might have some tips\advice for me..

Isn't this really the best form of networking, getting to know people first then deciding if you like/trust them and you make the decision if you want to make an approach with your business on offer.

    But, yeah, I agree......

Yeah, in an ideal world I'll meet someone, give them some advice and in the process build up a relationship that might lead to more business for me or a supplier for something that I can sell. I just feel that a lot of networking events end up as you say in a situation where everyone is only interested in talking about what they can sell you..

Good idea, I am still at the "can't disclose the idea stage" of my business :) But in the future would be a great idea to meet up and bounce ideas.

Well I've no plans to sell you guys anything, but I do plan on getting energised, tax advice, funding advice etc...

As for a crowd, I think once we have 10, that is plenty... though the more the merrier.

Any more interest in this? Even a small group might be interesting at least for the first time...I would take it upon myself to organise but how many people want to travel to Limerick (which I would suggest for my convenience :D)

    🤪
