Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've ended up doing something I've never done before and it was a very unusual experience for me. I'm having a cup of tea to get over it.

I went out to feed my hens this evening and one of them looked uncomfortable trying to walk so I carried her to the moveable hen run and then noticed her rear end/vent and it was not a pretty sight. The poor thing is egg bound so I had to google how to treat it or she could die within 48 hours.

I had to get the pet carrier and line it with paper and wood shavings, get a basin and fill it with warm water, get old towels, kitchen roll, olive oil and change clothes expecting to get a drenching when I submerged the hen's lower half in the warm water.

I did as instructed and had her in it for 30 mins and she was so docile and didn't even flap her wings, she nodded off but I reckon she was too uncomfortable to put up any resistance. When I dried her off her vent was still oozing and she tried straining and I thought she was going to have a prolapse. I put some olive oil around it, I wasn't brave enough to go further in.

I put her in the pet carrier and put her in the body of the hen house but left the door of the pet carrier open so she could access the bowl of water in front of it. I hope she's a bit better tomorrow and I'll have to do it a few more times if she pulls through. I don't really fancy culling her just yet but my husband has told me I'll be the one doing it since I'm an experienced cockchoker though that was nearly 30 years ago.

A visit to the vet and a needle of oxytocin should do the job if you'd prefer to keep her.

Yeah, the vet is your best option, for the sake of the bird.

I'd recommend City Vets over the Pet Hosital in this case. I've brought birds into Tadhg before, and he admitted that he has very little experience with birds.

Well my hen is much better, she's walking around much easier and is eating and drinking. She's just after spending another 30 mins in warm water and her vent is back to it's normal colour and not red and swollen and her stomach isn't distended.

I've taken a young cock to see Tadhg before.

Now that's my random chat of the day :D

My husband and myself were walking through John Roberts Square this afternoon, just before 2.30pm and there were a number of Roma gypsies sitting and standing around and nearby there was a row going on with one man shouting "I don't care, they shouldn't be allowed into this country". We just kept going and didn't wait round to see what happened.

Not pleasant to see or hear especially with all the children around.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^
The group of Roma tried to steal his dog by distracting him a Roma girl about 14 yrs was the main culprit. The man is widowed and the dog is the only company he has.It was a friend of his who was doing the shouting and not the dog owner as he was shaken by the ordeal.

I really fancy a crack at that Mega Burger challenge below in revolution. A fellow boardsie who shall remain nameless went down in flames and it's been on my mind. 3 half pounders with coleslaw & chips in 25min.

Hey lads, ye should give an aul' vote for Waterford here... we're up against Kilkenny and Wexford to host the Matt Cooper Show on Today FM for a week. While doing the show he'll be basically advertising the place he's broadcasting from, might be no harm for the place to get a bit of a free plug nationally.

    Here's the link

Get voting, here's what the vote looks like so far...

That would be the Millitary Barracks on Barrack St, it is now a small housing estate but it has kept the original arch that used to lead into the barrack square.

General Q. How do you go about finding out if a house is council owned or private landlord? :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

So a little cousin of mine is hitting town friday night for the first time and I'd imagine going to try get into the foundry and I realise at 16 there are people out there drinking in pubs that weren't even alive when independence day was released. It has made me feel very very old :(

Go to the land registry office on the cork road give them the address and they should be able to help you out.

Hi, Got no idea where to post this and cos i'm new Boards wont let me post on a soccer thread! I need some info and after looking around here I came across this page and it seems to be the only page it will let me post on.......Hope someone may be able to help.
In 1968 Waterford United played against Man U. at Lansdown road as I'm sure a lot of you guys on here are aware. My question is about a Waterford crystal soccer boot that was made for and presented to George Best by Shay Brennan to commemorate the game. Its inscribed, tho I'm not sure of the exact wording right now. Does anyone know anything about this? Or where I might get some information about it? I've searched around the net with no success!
Anyway if you can help in any way it would be great! If not no worries,
    Thanks a lot

Go down to the land registry in the manor and do a search, €2.50 I think takes about ten minutes.

I've been using Rapid Cabs for the past 3 months going to and from my house and Waterford Regional Hospital (for orthopaedic and physio appointments).

Booked a taxi yesterday evening for 9.30 this morning. At 9.15 the taxi driver rang me saying she was in Ferrybank and looking for directions for my house out in Slieverue. I gave her very specific directions, directions which every other taxi driver in the company have been able to follow (and all other delivery men, such as Tesco and couriers). At 9.30 I got a phone call telling me she was outside my house. When I booked the taxi I had asked if the taxi driver would mind going around to the back of the house as I am on crutches (one of the other taxi drivers showed me that on their little digital displays this instruction in included) so I asked her if she wouldn't mind driving around the back of the house and the taxi driver started screaming down the phone at me asking how was she supposed to go around the back of the house, kept saying she was out the front. In the interests of making my appointment on time I wobbled around to the front of the house. No taxi.

At 9.35 standing out the front of my house, I rang the taxi driver's number again and asked her where she was, she told me she was at the third house (there are four houses together and we are in the third house), I told her that she wasn't at the third house and she started screaming down the phone at me that she was at the third house, parked out the front and that she will go around the back to me. She then hung up. A few minutes later a car came up the driveway, drove around the back of the house, did a u-turn and left again, all in quick succession, she did not stop even for a second. When I realised that she was after driving off down the driveway I rang her and asked her where she was, again she started screaming down the phone that she was at the third house. I said to her that I was at the third house and she told me that I wasn't  I said to her that I had an appointment at 10 o'clock at the hospital and just to forget about it altogether. No intention of sitting in a taxi with her after the way she spoke to me.

So I was in the process of organising a lift from one of my friends out to the hospital and Rapid Cabs rang me to apologise and looking for directions to send another driver out and I told them not to bother and that I wouldn't be using them again. That's after costing them about €50 a week (bear in mind that they also have taxis at the rank outside the hospital), I know that's not a huge amount but it's a lot of money to me to be paying for an unreliable service so it won't be going to them.

I ended up 20 minutes late (and basically missed my appointment because the person I was seeing had another patient due) for my appointment because of that woman

Anybody know if they're taking applications for WCFE this late? I emailed them about it and they said they are re-opening late applications in 2 weeks time, but I have a feeling it will be for only a very few select courses. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,213 ✭✭✭daenerysstormborn3

Jesus you're after giving me a fright coco. I emailed them yesterday about applications for evening classes (to check if they were still open) and the director of adult education e-mailed me back saying "Enrollments do not start until September"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭cocoshovel

Ah Im talking about the full time courses. I should have applied back in April really but at the time I was doing a different fetac course which I now have decided that its not the right educational route for me to go down. Im hoping they will accept my application and interview me but tbh I have a feeling deep down inside that they definitely wont.
