Just went into WH there to bet on the following double:
Kerry to win the Football All-Ireland @ 7-4
    Kilkenny to win Hurling All-Ireland @ 8-13

Got the odds and yo one rang for bet clearance - had to wait a couple of mins and then they came back saying the maximum stake allowed on that bet was 200 euros?? I mean what a bunch of *******.

Wow, I'm shocked. Hills generally lay big bets. With the nature of the bet, I'm surprised they weren't willing to lay you 5 figures at least. They clearly don't like the irish stuff though.

I see they go 4/9 now on Kilkenny. More in line with the other bookies.

    Hills are useless.
The shops are old fashioned, uncomfortable, badly laid out not a place I would go to give the choices around.
They are closing some of their branches around as they are getting killed by Paddy Powers and Boylers.
It's only a matter of time before they pull out of the totally
when they didn't get the FOBT's they were looking for.

Lol - dont believe everything that you read in the press releases and stories from Tony Kenny!!!(Admittedly he does a good job though), and Hills are different class in the UK for laying bets..

Would give it another year max before they leave the Irish market completely though, old shops not a patch on competitors which are around the corner(eg Stillorgan/Suffolk St/Parnell St etc), and staff seemingly have to ring security clearance for any bet over 50 Euro, or even when paying out over 500 Euro on a winning slip!!!!

    I disagree.

I lived in the UK and used them on a regular basis. Usual bets would be in the region of hundreds. When War of Attrition who the the Irish Gold Cup, oh it must be 3 years ago I logged into my WH account to place £10,000 @ 4/5 but the max limit I was allowed was £4000. I deposited £10,000 into Stan James via Neteller but SJ had only just started accepting this method and it wouldnt approve the transaction, I called WH minutes before the race and was told £4000 was the maximum amount I could have on. I left it and of course WOA duly hacked up. Since that day I never used WH as a betting format, I used their casino and poker but not for betting so to say that they are willing to lay a bet, I have to disagree. At the same time also there was a this rumour that come guy had taken them to court as he lost millions with them, I find this extremely hard to believe, in my opinion it was just a publicity campaign, I do not rate them as a betting operation and in many respects there are on a par with Ladbrokes, although in past years Ladbrokes have been good to deal with in relation to big bets, you'd usually get a large bet cleared in seconds but their security manager changed a few years ago and things have changed.

Fair enough ref the above, to be honest have only ever used Hills for backing dogs(99% of my bets would be on dogs), am from the UK originally but moved over here a few years back - as I said found them accommodating over there, and had a good record with them as well(obviously had to use different shops, which is not a problem over there as they have that many!!!!)

Ref the court case - that is true, Graham Calvert junior(ex Sunderland trainer) took Hills to the high court, however like you say certain parts of it were strange, 350k in carrier bags taken in a shop to punt USA to win the Ryder Cup!!!

Hahah, don;t think I'm basing my opinion on Tony Kenny (very low opinion of him). When my online account was new, some of their limits were just huge. 10k-15k possible on a rugby handicap in the GP or Heineken Cup (not that im betting that amount, you can see your potential max bet beforehand)
