    Fully deserved win.

Great performance from Chelsea. Essien was class.

Liverpool could have done with a Robbie Keane type player to break down that Chelsea rearguard.

time to weather the storm from utd fans i spose......

    quality game despite the loss.

    screw europe etc etc

Essien makes that Chelsea team much better, plays the part Makele did under Jose.

Losing 2 goals from corners is just very por. Hypia should have started

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,106 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

whats most depressing is, despite chelsea's great play, all thats in it is shockingly bad defending from corners!

Well done Chelsea, great final 30 minutes. If Torres had worked some magic when he was put through from a Gerrard's header who knows...

Tie over. Though it was always going to be really difficult after that quarter final draw.

I'd rather we didnt break down the defence at all than break them down and miss chance after chance thanks.

Are Chelsea really going to let Hiddink go? I can't see it. He's too good.

Very True. Chelsea could have scored 6. Liverpool did try though a good game.

Well Done Chelsea a deserved win, congrats from a disappointed and surprised pool fan.

Lucas was poor as usual. Skertl, fabio and riera were poor for a change.

Well done Chelsea, they fully deserved that by the sounds of it. Speaking of which, if I ever have to listen to R5Live commentary again it'll be too soon, I think live text is probably preferable to Lawro and Alan Green.

    +1

Jesus lads... at least ye can concentrate on the Priemership now, Id rather the pool win it than Utd.

Shouldn't be we don't have to shout about recently.

Super performance from Chelsea. Hiddink was brought in to win the CL he might just do it with displayslike that.

Let's hope that's enough to break Liverpool's spirit and send them on a downward spiral, United styleeeeee !

All I can say is well done Chelsea. They were better than they have been in a long time. Looked like the ultra professional and lethal team that dominated the premiership a few years ago.

I understand why Dossena was put on - as Aurelio was having a bad game. So Dossena couldnt be any worse. Right ? Wrong. He was dreadful. I despair when I see him on the pitch. First time Ive seen Malouda have a really good game though.

I think thats probably Liverpool out. Very little chance they will score 3 at Stamford Bridge.

Skrtel and Lucas are not up to it for these standard of matches.
Chelsea are not afraid of Anfield in the CL anymore.
Hiddink is one hell of a coach.
Essien was man of the match.
I'm never slagging of Ivanovic again.
And Chelsea thoroughly deserved every bit of that win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Chelsea played very well. Essien was outstanding. The system created lots of chances, and had Drogba been on form, the result could have been worse.

Shocking defending for the corners, what happened only Rafa will know, but shocking.

I think Liverpool's attack really suffered from their old weakness, the middle two of the front 4 are world class, the other 2 just aren't. Kuyt created the goal with his backheel, but aside from that, his play just wasn't really what you need of a player in that position. Then again, I'd be wary of criticising him, just how he is used. Reira was anonomyous.

Liverpool scoring 3 at Stanford Bridge with Carvalho back? Just can't see it myself. Even if its possible they score 3, I'd be shocked if they don't concede on the break trying to.

By the way, saying Hyppia should have started is the worst type of results based analysis. Skrtel has been great all season, and we haven't conceded a goal because of poor marking in weeks. And overall, our defensive performances since the Boro game has been excellent. There was no good reason to start Sammi tonight. We made two mistakes and were punished for it. It happens, but that doesn't invalidate the team selection.

    Come on now.

Wonder if City will put in a £100m bid for Essien in the summer? Savagely good player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,473 ✭✭✭✭Super-Rush

Should have known this would happen, my poor old dog was run over today. At least the fans stayed in the ground for the whole game. If chelsea could come to anfield and do that whats to stop us from going to the bridge and doing the same. You just gotta believe.

Good game , Great viewing , Cannot argue about the result , Could have easy been 4 . Terry missing 2nd leg gives Liverpool a small very small chance .
But can anyone really not see Chelsea scoring in the 2nd leg.

    Well done Chelsea. Great Result.

Thought United had it bad last night but Liverpool have it all to do now. They need to win by 3 clear goals now at the bridge.

What about goals from corners when the defending team doesn't use zonal marking? Does it mean that no marking works???

We're through the looking glass imo

Skrtel isn't strong enough in the air, if Drogba wasn't fit I would agree with you but Hypia would have been much more dominant in the air imo
