    Hi All,

I'm on a large site where there are many different printers spread over the wan.

We are having an issue with the printer spooler hanging on a server throughout the day.

Anyone any idea on how to troubleshoot this issue.

try and use microsoft printer drivers where possible
HP historically (going back to windows 3.1 print manager) are problematic on shares
use a compatible driver if no microsoft driver for that particular model
try to use a flat share driver if no other choice

check printer settings for resolution / memory and raster / vector to enable more reliable printing, you want fewer jobs in the queue by sending job to printer sooner

    less likely
check event log to see if it's a certain client jamming up it up with stupid stuff like Letter paper or wrong orientation

If all of the users are using printers installed on the server directly then disable the option for support of locally installed printer on the Citrix client.

This problem can lead to loads of different drivers appearing on the Citrix server as it tries to support the printers installed on the client pc's

worse case set a timed restart of the spooler service with a batch file
    with
    net stop spooler
    net start spooler

if the spooler service is stopping on the server then under the recovery settings of the service tell it to restart for first and second failure and run the file for the third failure.

    on the monitoring side.

If you have ms exchange installed then configure the spooler as a monitored service and get it to email you if the service stops and also to run the restart batch file.

    Hope this helps.
