Hey I'm in that course at the mo'. First year was the best year of my life. It's a great college and always has something going on...There's a great social life in the college, deffo try get invloved in the soc's and nights out and whatnot.
The work load was practically zilch. It's more about practical learning rather than being bogged down with boring assignments (in saying that...there are obviously a few boring assignments...but they're handy enough.)
We got to set up a stall at the DL CoCo market (and made a nice 100 yoyos each :p). The lecturers for the most part are amazing, very helpful and interested in how the students are enjoying the material and college life...
I didn't have days off when I was in first year but this year they had Fridays off. My timetable was 11-6, 11-4 (I think), 9-1, 9-1, 9-1 Mon-Fri. There's 6 modules, 4 end of year exams. The other 2 are 100% continuous assessment. And the exams are some of the easiest ones I've ever sat.
All in all this course is incredibly hard to fail and possibly the most fun I've ever had. But even though its so easy and fun you do actually learn an awful lot about business from the practical things they do.

As far as the entreprenurial thing goes it's a huge part of it, they get a lot of great entrepreneurs in to talk to us and some of them even offer positions to students in their companies. The overall objective is that in 3rd year you create a business plan for a business that you've come up with and present it to the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Council as if you were really doing it and ya get feedback from them. In 2nd year you set up an eBay shop and promote it and do a funding pitch to get money to help ya do it, and 1st year has the market stall.
And I was the same about the Accounting end of it, but I ended up getting an A! Very well explained and whatnot so don't worry about that at all!

Did not expect that to be so long haha...hope it helps a bit!!

    Hi,
I am joining this year and have to choose between DL245 and DL231, the college says they are exactly the same for the first three years - is that completely true?

yeah there pretty much the same....Dl245 has 4 years and DL231 has 3 wit an optional add on year...thats the only difference really....we even got paired together with a project in 1st year

so the distinct is kept as to those who are doing the level 7 course and those doing the level 8.
Does this lead to rivilary between the two groups or is everyone seen as having the same target?
