They should have dropped it slightly in this budget then slightly again in the proper budget, don't understand why they haven't

I think he meant that people on 50k would pay an additional 1500 per. their levy increases from 1% to 4%

    50,000 @ 1% = 500
    50,000 @ 4% = 2000

is this what he meant ?

So someone on 49K will now be better of than someone on 51K ?????
Surely its 1% on the first 50K and 4% there after ??

Totally bottled it cuts of 1.5bn and tax increase of 1.8bn is a complete joke, they are putting off what is needed, we will be back in September with another budget.

This government is beyond a joke, they have no clue what is needed

How much was the December bonus anyhow?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,076 ✭✭✭PCros

I think they didn't cut the welfare is because you would have 370,000 people cutting their own spending which would have a knock on effect on consumer spending.

The income levy rates are now 2%, 4% and 6%, there's no more 1%

    ouch ouch ouch
It can't be otherwise you'd be earning a lot less earning €50,000 a year than you would if you earned €49,999. The 4% is only on the bracket of €50,000-€300,000.

Anyone earning €100,000 a year will be paying €3,000 for the levy

Cancel Xmas if you can't afford it. Its an OPTIONAL holiday, you don't have to spunk money on presents if you don't have it.

you cant get you old age pension until 65...age discrimination ???

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭fricatus

A tax? Why dont they just reduce the Child Benefit?

Because taxing it along with other income is more equitable. People on lower incomes would only have it taxed at 20 or 22 percent, whereas someone on say 60k would have it taxed at 44 or so percent.

Cutting it across the board would be less fair on people who depend heavily on it and aren't just stashing it away as the kid's college fund!
