Cancel Xmas if you can't afford it. Its an OPTIONAL holiday, you don't have to spunk money on presents if you don't have it.

Tell that to a 6 year old!

Guys, christmas is 8 months away. Im sure you'll have alot more to worry about between now and then than your "bonus".

That Xmas bonus is VERY important...this is disaister!!!...and they are cutting rent allowance....shocking.

rent has come down why wouldn't that come down.

I think they didn't cut the welfare is because you would have 370,000 people cutting their own spending which would have a knock on effect on consumer spending.

But instead they've increased taxes on everyone else which will have exactly the same result so I doubt that's the thinking

Heh, be happy more welfare cuts did not occur - they were needed.

It can't be otherwise you'd be earning a lot less earning €50,000 a year than you would if you earned €49,999. The 4% is only on the bracket of €50,000-€300,000.

    that sounds more sensible alright....

indeed social welfare should be decreasing in line with the 10% lower standard of living being dished out to everyone supporting the exchequer by paying tax

Theres plenty of people who dont get Christmas bonuses anyway despite working the entire year, why should those who dont have a job get one?

No welfare cuts except for the December Dole Bonus which is being cut.

Good. The government shouldn't be paying for Christmas.

Capital Gains Tax up to 25%. I don't think anyone will manage a capital gain on anything for quite a while!! No money for the coffers there.

The dole should be taxed and cut!! Taxing ppl thru the teeth who are actually out working to pay for ppl who sit at home is unfair.

exactly, a bonus for not working

It's not a bonus for the "not-working", it's a bonus for the unemployed. There's alot more people with families on the dole that don't want to be than there are people who take advantage of the system. I do think that weekly payments should have been cut though
