Diesel should have been left as is. Its vital to the infrastructure, delivery vans HGVs public transport even.

Yeah but businesses can reclaim the VAT on these. It makes sense. Petrol was hit in the last budget and prices have been going up lately so it's diesel's turn :p

He said that the excise on cigarettes is being raised by 25% which I think in turn means approx 25 cents per pack.

Cigs are up, it would have been a nice social gesture to take vat off nicotine replacement therapies in tandem.

Publicans in the pockets just as much as the builders.

Also, people need to drink to numb the pain.

Huge pressure from the Vintners Federation. I expected them to raise the tax on off license sales - surprised they didn't.

Alcohol is already twice the price as it is up north, probably doesn't want to send more lovely tax cash to Her Majesty.

He said percent in the October budget too, but it was 25c in the budget document so put it down to slip of tongue. RTE's twitter feed says 25c too :)

people who complain about the christmas bonus being cut are whats wrong with this country, ffs it's 8 months away, how about making an effort to get a job whereby it won't matter?

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,322 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

This is nowhere near the 'painful' budget we were led to expect so far.

Can't put up alcohol. It would ruin the already ailing pub industry, which would be detrimental to the economy.

More training and education supports for the unemployed, help for apprentices! And "stamp duty trade in scheme", that could be interesting.
