surely given the slow proc speed and small ram the new omnia s60 from samsung is the better bet

I've been thinking about this myself lately.

But the fact is, both phones are targeting different audiences. If you want a specificly made, always on social networking (twitter/facebook/bebo) phone that you can update whenever, wherever (as conveniently as possible), get the N97.

If you want the best multimedia device, including video/photos and a large screen, get the Omnia HD.

The N97 doesn't need the fastest processor because of what is was built to do. If it was to be marketed specifically as a great gaming phone for example, it would undoubtedly have a faster CPU and dedicated GPU.

Two different devices, both great all-rounders but both specialising in two different things.

    I'll be getting the N97.

Im caught between the two of them myself,i like the symbian Os which is probably why im open to the samsung. There's a few videos of both now on dailymobile.se.

I think the n97 might just tip it for me seen as it has the keypad, worst case scenario if texting is a pain using the t/s at least you have that.

Is it worth a preorder tho?or will it be a case of it drops in price about a week after being released

Is your source reliable or is it from some numb nut in a 3 store. I rang 3 to confirm and they won’t even tell ya what day it is. I will leave 3 if another network gets it first.
But that all depends on what apple have under their skin:D on June 8th.

O2 is set to release the new Nseries flagship handset, the N97, ahead of other network stores, in June. It is understood that some O2 stores could have the device by 15 June, and Carphone Warehouse stores will start selling the phone one week later on 23 June. Carphone will be offering the phone for free on a £45 per month contract on O2 and Orange. The phone will cost £690 Sim-free. Vodafone is currently planning to release the N97 in July.

I wonder if 02 or cpwh here will follow suit at the same time, although there's not a chance i would pay 690stg (€768 at todays rate) for a mobile phone!

Any idea how long it normally takes from them to testing the phone to releasing or at least announcing the phone?

Really hope they don't get it as an exclusive...

Just read that Vodafone UK will be offering it from free on monthly. Too much to ask for similar treatment here I suppose.

The E75 is due out on 3 early June so the N97 will not be before that date.

Mobile Review have the first review up but it's in Russian - and I would be wary of what firmware version he is running as he had the white N97 back in December with an earlier version.

Is it just me, or does the white version look a lot better than the black. I had always planned getting the black one, but im seriously changing my mind now. The only doubt is the white going grubby like white phones do!

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

very strange response? not launching the device? obviously Vodafone will be selling the handset? I even linked to Vodafone UK site showing the N97 arriving in July. obvioulsy the Op doesn't have a clue or has been told to shhhh... strange. you'd think they'd be doing their best to hype it up and detract from the O2 iPhone bullsh1t.

You might want to take the operator's name out of that post there, it's not the done thing here.

Just because Vodafone in the UK are getting it does not mean Ireland will be too. Also why would the shout about it like O2 did the iphone if they dont have exclusivity on it.

Looks quite a bit more usable than that of the 5800XM. Also, I don't think the N97 has been really designed for stylus use, despite that being a feature of resistive screens.

It does look a little more usable alright, but it's not integrated into the device like the stylus in th 5800, just doesn't seem handy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Yeah, I know. However, like I said, I think the N97 is more designed with thumb use in mind. Hopefully this will result in better UI layout in the 5800, as stylus use is a pain.

Im guessing they want you to tie it on to the phone using the string on the lid but i think that would be very annoying, chances are it will go missing anyway

It's optional, the main text input screen for the querty doesn't have the on screen keys.

It's strange; from what I gathered in the translated review Eldar was saying that there wasn't onscreen qwerty :/
