I occassionally clap in appreciation of Ryanair getting me to within a bus trip of my desired destination, for about a tenner.

I used to clap the bus driver to annoy him.

This is completely true, I was on a flight that landed nearly 35 min early a few weeks ago - so for them to say a flight usually takes 2 hrs but only took 1 hr 30 min this time is bullsh1t, why is that, did the pilot really give it welly or something?
Jet aeroplanes with wings at an angle are roughly twice as fast as the propeller planes with straight wings. But the timetables are still the same since the '50's on shorter routes because the add in lots of hold time for delays and looping the airport. It also means it's easier to keep on schedule when you have 30+ minutes in addition to the largest industry fudge factor too.

I am sorry but I do a tricky job for little money but you dont see anyone clapping at me and if they did I would deck them tbh. I have never, will never & refuse to clap at someone for doing their job properly.

I remember watching Spiderman 2 at a cinema in San Diego. At the end of it, half the cinema erupts into applause. Very strange.

However I must admit that I do clap after a long-haul flight. But it's not because we got there safely. It's my unbelievable joy that, after 11 hours of mostly sitting down, I can finally walk around properly and go to the toilet without at least 20 people watching me walk down the aisle.

Clapping at the end of a flight is just like saying thank you to the bus driver when you've reached your desination. It's just polite because there really is no other way to thank the pilot, unless you risk it and decide to walk all the way up to the cockpit to shake his hands but then you'll be tackled by a bunch of passangers who think they're John McClain

I like to clap at the shops when the girl gives me back my 1c.

"Yeah! well done!" following by lots of *woot*-ing.
