    Hey everyone,

It seems that BT are now offering up to 24MB to all customers who can get it, even customers who are paying for 1MB? Looks like all you'll be charged for is the download limit (which are still the same 10GB, 30GB and unlimited), interesting move - wonder how well that will work out?

EDIT: Found some more information here, it's the same select few exchanges and Option 1 looks to be only a 6 month promotion (selling point?)

yep. these are they BT LLU exchanges only. that list hasn't changed in a long time. Now what Eircom is pushing 24MB through bitstream, lets see what happens with the BT LLU 24MB packages...

It will be interesting competition, I just wonder how Eircom's network will handle those speeds (esp. after the 7.6MB upgrades).

You'll only get 24Mmbps fairly close to exchange. It's pointless marketing hype chasing after 10% of the customers who would want it, and only maybe 20% of people are close enough.

What they really need is to have basic calls + BB + line rental at €19.95.

Who cares if they are offering "up to" 24Mbps when line rental is so expensive that only 66% of households have one, and 1/3rd of those is paid for by the State?

As Watty said previously 24MB is pretty much useless as most people aren't close enough to the Exchange to obtain the speed. FTTH is the only way of rolling out High Speed internet.

Is not 24 mb is up to. As far as I remember, last year, when BT upgraded all their option 3 customers to up to 24 mb the vast majority got speeds over 14 mb, not too bad and def better than 1 mb

and bb-calls-line rental for 19 euro is, at the moment, not possible, and wont be for the next years or until eircom lower their llu prices, remember that BT just invested on LLU2 good money and they will need to compensate somehow, also, it seems that is never enough, we are never happy...

I was actually expecting so see posts like "why would you want 24 mb if you will get throttle as soon as you exceed your usage"

FTTH is good but completely unproductive and out of reach for residential customers, about 90% of the money a company like BT makes comes from their business side.

There is no patience, step by step, that's how things work. 2 years ago most of the country had to deal with speeds of no more than 3 mb, now you can go up to 24 mb, even 50 mb if you have fibre, things will get better, but will happen slowly

It is a 6 month trial for new customers only. Not for everyone.
