Just answered my own question re Red Arrows. The display will be along prom as per the old & sadly missed airshow.

before anyone more gives out i'm coming down from donegal to watch this (followed the volvo ocean race for years so looking forward to seeing the boats ) also boo to the hotels who want upto 300 euro a night , yay to the b and b's who seem to be charging normal rates

Galway is a great spot and you'll have a mighty time. And yes, fairplay to any B&B's who don't go mental with prices. TBH I wouldn't mind a 10%-20% increase in prices in hotels/b&b's since it's going to be such a big event, but the likes of the Radisson upping prices by 300% - what a fcuking joke

That would a huge waste of opportunity. A run out to the Islands would give a chance for thousands of spectators to get a view. It must of been rumoured as lots of people are expecting it.

Has there been any info as to whether the Arrows are just doing a fly past or a full display ? . If it's a display where will the display line be ?. If it were off the harbour (they cannot display over the city) it won't be as easy to view than at Salthill. The Arrows are a huge draw & the organiser need to do a "where is best to view events map".

The "Red Arrows" will be doing a full display at Salthill cant wait to see them again.

Show center for the Red's Display is the Slipway at Salthill across from the Waterfront Hotel. Also the provisional timing for them is 12midday on may 30th ( Sat ) as after Salthill they are off to France for another Airshow.

It's nice to know that they dropped THEIR rates, but by how much? Thieving gits in the first place for charging that much, but I suppose business is business.

Think i'm gonna have the best view of all sitting on top of a 52ft luxury sports cruiser with a cheeky bottle of b :D

I got forwarded an email from GAAW and they're planning on protesting against the Red Arrows display yet again. They're giving out about polution of the environment amound other things - so filling up, and presumably releasing, 99 baloons into the environment is a way to protest against this? And on top of that the dangers of doing so when there are pilots doing complex manuevers over a family crowd.

GAAW TO RUN 99 RED BALLOON EVENT AT SPANISH ARCH ON 30TH MAY

GAAW welcomes the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Galway, but we deplore
the invitation to the RAF’s Red Arrows. Neither the warplanes nor
their pilots have any connection whatsoever with the unique character
and culture of Galway or Ireland. Their display is both a polluter of
the environment and the international body politic. Tear away the
'glamour' that shrouds the planes and pilots and what you have is a
recruiting sergeant for the British military and an apology for war,
death and terror; what you have are pilots, who in their day jobs are
trained to terrorise and kill people. Nearly every one of the pilots
has seen combat in Iraq or Afghanistan. Pilots and planes that kill
other people's children are not family entertainment. As a peace group
we have no option but to oppose this invitation to these killers.

Our opposition to these killers has been decried by certain FF
gombeens. They have accused us of being “anti-Galway” – this is rich
coming from a party that has brought not just Galway’s economy, but
the economy of the entire republic to its knees.

Galway’s Labour TD Michael D. Higgins, however, has expressed his
opposition to the Red Arrows’ war display over Galway Bay.

GAAW will be making its voice heard. We will hold a 99 Red Balloon
Peace Event on Saturday 30th May at Noon at Spanish Arch. Please be
    there and spread the word!

Easy way out of that is to 'block' the airspace over Galway during the show, which has been done in previous years (sorry don't know the techie term) - to release/fly anything while this block is on (apart from people permitted) is illegal. Hence if they release the baloons they'd all be arrested (which i'd actually love to see)

Muppets of the higher order tbh. What they gonna do, play Blondie's dong as they release them? And when the FCUK has the Red Arrows planes ever contributed to warfare? They're a flippin' acrobatic display team thingy

Well it is good to see they're planning on having their protest at the Spanish Arch - while everyone else will be out at Salthill enjoying the show! :p

The Council should advise them that that will be proscecuted for littering. If anyone else publicly dumped 100 bits of non biodegradable plastic they would be.

Thats the TRA ( Temporary Restricted Airspace ) and it will be in Effect as it is for every Airshow/Display, covers about 10NM Radius, Nothing and i mean NOTHING can go into it without authorisation thats the way it works. Pilots are also legally obliged to read NOTAMS ( Notices To All Airmen ) before take off about anything taking part in their area and not to enter a TRA which is deemed sterile Airspace unless given authorisation to do so, also nothing can be in a TRA when you have 9 Hawk Jets rolling around.

Can we keep all the GAGAAW v GAAW comments in the Red Arrows thread please? It's getting tiresome to read the same crap arguments over and over again.

Aye I thought the pricing was quite fair.

Anyone know what the story is with the docks on a daily basis-
i.e. Are the stalls open everyday? pub?
