There's enough firepower in that region to win several World Wars. Unfortunately as mentioned before the Somali coast is very very big and most of the pirates use small yachts and powerboats. Best method of dealing with this is the French one as previously discussed. Give them the money, get the hostages to safety, send back in commandos, retrieve cash, feed bullets to pirates. Tres bien.

Fair enough I accept I resorted to stereotype there. But it is still remarkable that these relatively under resourced groupings can carry this off. I still don't understand why an international communique canot be circulated saying potential hijackers will be shot. Apparently reprisal killings are expected. There are a number of siezed vessels and a number of hostages for them to choose from. I guess we shall see.
