Obituary - Jimmy Neighbour
We were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Jimmy Neighbour earlier today (Saturday, April 11) at the age of 58.

He passed away following a heart attack at his Woodford Green home where he had been recovering following a recent hip replacement operation.

A member of our 1971 Football League Cup winning side, Chingford-born Jimmy was on our books as a full time player from April, 1966 until September, 1976, making 156 senior competitive appearances and netting 11 goals.

His League debut was against Stoke City on October 24, 1970. A fluent winger, he supplied many of the chances for our international strike force of the early 1970's.

Jimmy returned to our full time staff during July, 2000 as coach to the Under-17 side, leading them to the FA Academy League Group A Championship during his second season in charge.

He left the club in July, 2005 having been coach of our Under-16 side during the previous season.

In between his spells at White Hart Lane, his three years at Norwich City yielded five goals in 115 senior games.

He spent the summer of 1979 at Seattle Sounders before joining West Ham United later that year.

Jimmy made the last of his 304 Football League appearances on February 12, 1983 against Wrexham, whilst playing on loan for AFC Bournemouth.

His coaching career included a four year stint with Enfield, helping them to lift the FA Trophy in 1988, plus spells with West Ham as Youth Development Officer, assistant manager at Doncaster Rovers and manager at St. Albans City.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
