Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Anyone being to Wroclaw, Warsaw or Krakow. Have a flight into Wroclaw next week, flying out from Krakow 8 days later. Intend travelling by train from Wroclaw to Warsaw, and likewise from Warsaw to Krakow.

Any suggestions on things to see, places to go, and of course pubs/nightclubs worth going to. Never being to Poland before, and advise much appreciated.

    Cheers

I can really recommend you Krakow, in my opinion one of two most beautiful polish city (second is Gdansk). The old market square is really worh seeing, but you will find there many many other interesting places. Krakow is also known for night life, there are plenty of pubs, discos etc... For more information visit http://www.krakow.pl/en/?chl=EN and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krak%C3%B3w

Wroclaw isn't as nice as Krakow, but still it's ok. Visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wroclaw and http://www.wroclaw.pl/ms/english/

Warsaw... well it's ugly city, but you can find there few skyscrapers and lot of big shops. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warszawa or http://e-warsaw.pl/2/index.php

Loads to do in krakow, salt mines, aushwitz concentration camp & wawel castle. It is a nice city with plenty of cheap bars & restaurants. There is a pub near wawel castle called pod wawel(I think) - traditional bar/restaurant serving its own homemade lemon vodka!!

if u want to travel using trains - dont use night trains, don't show on the trains that u are "rich". don't leave valuables unattended.
    everything else will be fine

...if you got a gun before you get a train :D

No, seriously trains in Poland aren't neither safe nor comfortable as they're in Ireland. Sad but true.

In Warsaw avoid the strict City Centre (ugly modern style) but do walk the Royal Route (Trakt Krolewski) from Lazienki Park to the Old Town. Really classy.

First class on Polish trains is fine and not a huge amount more expensive. Well worth it, though none of the journeys you will be doing are 'very' long.

    Make sure to try Zapiekanka.

If your saying that they are more dangerous and less comfortable than in Ireland, then I would disagree. I went from Krakow to rzeszow and found it very comfortable. Also had no problems safetywise, just use the same common sense you would in any city.

Trains are usually fine, possibly with the exception of:
    - slow local trains on some routes might be crowded + old carriages
    - night trains, pickpocketing not unheard of, lock your door or mind your valuables if you sleep on such a train

"Express" or Intercity trains between cities are usually absolutely fine and reasonably fast, usually depart every hour or so. Second class is naturally more crowded, take first class if you want privacy! Note that it's a much bigger country so it will take you a good couple of hours to get from one major city to another, plan ahead.
