Cech was awful on Saturday and terribly all throughout tonight. He's still top tier - just no longer in the conversation for being world #1.

    2129: GOAL Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool (agg 7-5)
Great work by Didier Drogba, passing to Nicolas Anelka, who finds Frank Lampard to turn in a lovely right-footed shot. Game over. Maybe.

    :D lol

Yeah have seen those given alright. But he made up for it by allowing Drogba to carry on his schtick for 90 minutes

If it's any consolation to Liverpool fans, at least any worries about being able to score 3 goals at Stamford Bridge are gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Any side that score four goals away from home in the Bridge and yet fail to qualify can count themselves unlucky.

    Full-time: Chelsea 4 (7) Liverpool 4 (5)

Credit to Chelsea for the comeback having being down 2-0 at halftime. Also credit to Liverpool for the subsequent comeback when it looked all over.

    Fantastic game for the neutral!:D

    both teams were outstanding

    Thank god. /melts

I said Liverpool would never get 3 at Stamford Bridge. Look at how that turned out. At least this should dispel the myth of boring Liverpool v Chelsea ties.

Looking back on it, what a smashingly entertaining game, even if defending was highly suspect.

I really didn't enjoy the experience though :/

Ref as been pretty awful tonight, would have been interesting to see if this was a premiership game (english ref) would it have made any diffrence.

I hate drogba so much, one of the strongest players in league and one of the biggest pussys, he's a discrace of a player.

I reckon it was a fair enough result though. Liverpool did them selves proud

Very poor second half for the ref, pity.

Great game all in all, we never gave up.

    Indeed

I seem to recall Ballack body-slamming Ronaldo at a corner a while back and getting nothing, but Liverpool get it. It happens.

Simply unbelievable match. I was laughing at the ridiculousness.....

Fair play pool, they gave it a hell of a go.

    Never said it wasn't.

I was arguing the point that the ref gave Chelsea everything. He gave Liverpool a penalty so clearly didn't.

what a half time team talk !!!
great game , great result was great to watch .... nothing like the oul bore fests that this game used to be with both teams aiming for a 1-0

    Two points.
    1. Very proud to be a Liverpool fan tonight on this week of all weeks
    2. I won't say what i really think of Drogba. Horrible human being.

Im still jetlagged after getting back from California last week, no sleep tonight either. Ill be fcukin wired after watching that. Just didnt go the 'pools. way unfortunately. :(

    Onwards and upwards. :)

I'm not too gutted, those players in red can be proud of themselves. Chelsea can also be proud that they brought gamesmanship to a whole new level.

now that was a game to remember.

thank you kindly chelsea and guus for that, im delighted, bloody emotional rollercoaster!

and thank you rafa and liverpool for providing such an opposition.
absolutely excellent game.credit where credits due.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,407 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Congrats to Chelsea, they were very good at the key moments.

I'm as happy as you could possibly be in defeat tbh. We showed tons of fight and spirit, and we never, ever gave up (forcing Essien into a super block, forcing a corner at the death). All the players can hold their heads up high over the two legs and rue the quality of opposition they had to face - Chelsea punished every mistake they made.

    Ah well. Cracking game.

There's no doubt it was a penalty King, but the issue is that manhandling like that goes on in the penality area week-in week-out in leagues around the world and you rarely see the attacking team getting the decision.

It's usually a free out and accepted by everyone there despite the fact that usually the ref only knows the f*ck why!

The referee missed a lot tonight, and also gave a lot that was questionable. I don't think either team can be overly critical of the referee as I felt he was poor to both sides.

We'll still always believe, even if we are out. Nothing is impossible with Liverpool in Europe.

I have no issues with being beaten, especially the way that game went.

Some very basic and horrendous defensive mistakes for the last 2 goals though.

Drogba though has dug himself right down to El Hadj Diouf levels for me though. (the only way to go lower btw would be to pop out in Australia)

great tv, but i agree with Dunphy to a certain point...alot of mistakes and bad football at times

    but who cares, great show.

And the ref wasnt that bad ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,430 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Jesus christ stop moaning about the ref, maybe if Liverpool had've defended in the 2nd half they would be celebrating. If you let in 4 goals you can't blame the ref for getting knocked out

DUNPHY STILL SAID IT WASN'T A GOOD GAME!

Can the RTE mods ban him?
