says a lot about the two clubs liverpool loosing 3-1 at anfield and the fans sang ynwa at the end.
chelsea loosing 2-0 at HALF TIME and still going through on agg and the fans boo them.
but fair play they fairly waved their ickle plastic fans at the end;)

over two legs best team no doubt fancy them to do barca

Have to hand it to both teams, as they gave us one of the best games of football....possibly ever! Liverpool couldn't have done anything more and Chelsea were outstanding over the two legs (bar the first half of this game).

I backflipped off the couch on more than one occasion. Ridiculously tense stuff. I really believed we would go through on a number of occasions so its a disappointing result, but I cant fault the effort of the players. The only positive is that we can now concentrate on the league I suppose.

Negatives: The referee was a disgrace. He blew up at EVERY opportunity. Some of the times when a player went down with minimal contact and got a free were brain numbing.

Also, its stupid how low down the pecking order Babel seems to be. Below El Zhar, AND N'Gog.

Babel ??? he never tries a tap...meh... hope we sell him in the summer

What the hell was Dunphy saying that UEFA have credited Drogba with the goal from Alex's thunderbolt ... he said it came off his shoulder? Was he even in shot, I don't remember seeing him anywhere near the ball in replays:confused:

thought Arbeloa went down easy from Cashley Cole's challenge..

Ah Yeah, Tonight is the reason alot of us on here watch football, I fúckíng love it when tactics go out the window, reminded me of the Newcastle match a decade or so back.

Congrats to both teams! Excellent stuff!!

I have to say, when Drogba went down injured off the pitch, and subsequently rolled onto the field of play, it should've been an INSTANT yellow card.

That incident, would be laughable if it was so pathetic and dishonourable - but unfortunately it's hardly shocking anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭Macker1

people calling drogba a lot of thing but jesus when he is up for it he has no peers absolutely terrorised carragher and co over two legs

A great spirited performance by the lads.... Really proud of the way they rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. Congrats to Chelsea and I wish them the best against Barca. They will need to tighten up a lot if they have any ambition of shutting out Messi, Eto and Henry.:eek::eek:

Finally Drogba is a cheating muppet and will always be remembered for the negative side of his game which is purely based on feigning injury and gaining unfair advantages by being a big girls blouse :mad::mad:

Now for the League its game on ;););)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,139 ✭✭✭flanzer

The was no diving tonight in fairness, loads of cheating (by one player mainly), no diving though. I don't know how Drogba rolled back onto the pitch with his leg in such a bad way. I was really concerned for the guy .........

I don't wish a broken leg on any player, but him, god forgive me, wish a little leg breakage on.

He's a world class player but a scourge on all things good in football

I sometimes think the Chelsea players havw lost respect for him too

Never before has a loss left me feeling so proud. Really don't care about the ref, the diving, the Chelsea fans booing their own off at the half, at the end of the day proud to be a red tonight. Let's go and win the league now and make the 96 proud. YNWA

Reyes did the same for Arsenal a few years ago, think it was against Madrid. I don't know what's worse, the player doing it, or the ref actually allowing it.

What a great game, end to end stuff, absolutely entertaining from the 1st minute to the last. I honestly didn't think Liverpool would score 3 goals at the bridge, but fair play to them. Thy really took the game to Chelsea in the 1st half.

That must of been some team talk from Hiddink, a totally different attitude from Chelsea in the 2nd half. Drogba was immense, his strength is 2nd to none, He brushed Carragher aside, pity Ballack couldn't convert what would of been a great goal. Liverpool couldn't handle the strength of Drogba and Drogba simply played of this, very intelligent play IMO. European football is less physical than the premiership so the ref is always going to a free if you're pushing into the striker. Lampard had a great 2nd half aswell.

No one can take the spirit away shown by Liverpool tonight, a great effort.

Both sets of fans should be proud for a truly entertaining show.

In the last month Liverpool have put 4 past Chelsea, Blackburn, United, Real Madrid and 5 past Aston Villa. Bodes well for the title
    push.

23 goals in last 7 games.

I have to say, i don't feel that disappointed. We had nothing to lose going into the game, i just wanted a fight from the players and something to hope for and we got that and more.

We had a good first half, got our two goals and looked really good. Pepe's mistake just after the break really gave them a lot of confidence. After that, it was just madness.

The ref did his best to spoil things. Everytime a Chelsea player dived, he was blowing up for it and pandering to them. Really didn't let the game flow. Didier Drogba really is a disgrace of a footballer and quite honestly, i wish he would just f*ck off to Italy or Spain at this stage. He's unplayable at times when he feels like playing, but seeing him rolling around on the ground the way he does is just embarrassing.

Chelsea deserved to go through overall. Really dug out the result tonight. But i'm so proud of Liverpool. Their stock just keeps rising in Europe, i'd say.

I think this is good for our title challenge as well. We have a week to prepare for the Arsenal match and our confidence should be well up after tonight's performance!

Don't make me laugh. The sort of antics that Drogba engages in are rife in the game, just to varying levels.

As has been stated by a number of posters in this forum, the expectation on a professional is to perform his duties to the best of his ability as an expert, for remuneration. In soccer, this means getting a result on the field of play. Unfortunately this has eroded a lot of the sporting element of the game, yet it's not just one or two individuals who will do anything to win, it's all of them.

It's rife in the game, just some players use it moreso than others. Don't delude yourself into thinking that a professional soccer players aim when they walk out the tunnel is to play fairly, it's to win no matter what the cost. Any player will chance their arm and use every possible angle to get the desired result for their team - victory.

You'll do well to find a player who won't go down in the box under pressure with minutes to go if his team need a late goal. If he gets yellow, so what, he "tried his best". If he gets a penalty, then yahoo - he's performed for his team/organisation.

I'm fully aware that players fall easier than others, but what Drogba did tonight...there is no defending it. I have no respect for that player. He is a cheat and its shocking that he got away with rolling off the pitch and then rolling back onto it.

There is nothing admirable about the way he plays the game.

    This post says it all.

You SHOULD be disappointed, your team is out of the Champions League. I don't get that mentality "Ah sure we played well."

Then you blame, the Ref, Reina and then Drogba.

And then sum it up with "Ah sure we have the league".

I very much doubt the Liverpool team are slapping each other on the back in the dressing room right now, based on their "brave" performance that "did the 96 Hillsborough victims proud" (as someone else posted above).

Have to agree, he is the only English Chelsea player that I can remotely stand and along with Essien would love to have on my team.

I personally don't think Lampard is a great player, he has his moments but thats it.
Impressive the way Anelka came into the match and changed the game.
Was supporting Pool this evening, Torres and Kuyt played really well.
btw, Lucas did okay scoring that goal.

All in all it was a great and entertaining match -:)

of course we are all disappointed. But the team gave absolutely everything tonight. I have never, and will never ask or expect any more than that from my team.
So yes the 96 would be proud i'm sure

i'm certainly not happy being out of the CL.

And Drogba is the most hateful figure in football. He is everything that's wrong with the game. But what a player he is . . .

Okay we have conceded 7 goals in 2 games and let in some really terrible goals but I am really proud of how our lads went about it tonight and had a right go.

We wanted a performance from them and we got it. I am GUTTED we aren't through of course but this week of all weeks it doesn't hurt as much as it normally would do.

Pride restored after the disappointing performance last week and the fans sounded fantastic down there and did us proud like the players did.

We are scoring goals freely now and it is great to see and I hope the manager learns from his experiences this season in going out to win games from the off rather than not to lose. If he shows that mentality like he has shown recently then with the right additions in the right areas next season we will take some stopping.

We know what we have to play for this season now. Show the attacking intent we showed tonight and have shown in recent weeks then we won't go far wrong.

Fair play to Clive Tyldsley as well tonight. He plugged the Hillsborough Memorial Service tomorrow and he had kind words about us all night and seemed to be rooting for us and his dig at Chelsea fans with free flags and us bringing our own was class :D

Well done Chelsea. You deserved to go through. The Anfield tie made life very difficult for us to get a result and it was too much of a mountain to climb in the end But we gave it a right damn go and got all so close. Be proud, I know I'am... and I'm sure the 96 would have been :)

    YNWA

Right, i'll start at the beginning then, it's best place really.

Yeah, i am disappointed at getting knocked out of the Champions league. But, we were pretty much out from the 1st leg so it was always an uphill task and against the odds. But we battled brilliantly and put up more of a fight and a performance that most other teams would have, but just fell short. Is it ok to have a bit of pride in defeat??

Secondly, i didn't blame the ref, Reina or Drogba. I commented on them. They were involved in the game. Should i just leave blank posts?? Chelsea were the better side over the two legs and deserved to win it, that's why they lost.

Thirdly, it's not "ah sure, we've got the league". It's a fact that all we have now is the league. Let's go for it now cos that's the one i want.

Lastly, don't be bringing in the 96 to try to win some sort of debate with me.

This time next week Pools season could be hanging by a thread if they fail to beat Arsenal. Amazing what could happen in the space of 7 days.
