the day they beat fulham a united fan was sitting very quiet watching he had a large bet on all top 4 teams to win chelsea and arsenal had done the business and he shouted "what a f*cking goal" when they scored?

    very strange behavior.

i had 16-1 on benni to score the winning goal

i was delighted but gutted at the same time
    is that even possible ?:pac:

I love all the talks of "delusion" in here.

Well to be fair before the first leg if you saw someone posting 3-1 to Chelsea you might have thought yeah right. I think delusion maybe the wrong word. Optimist with red tinted glasses is more realistic :p

(I'll have mine on tomorrow night too!)

Optomism is part of football though.

I suppose calling your opponents delusional is too.

I put 10 on pool to go through at 10/1, some joy if they manage to get thorugh but I am willing to lose a tenner to see them put out.

I was tempted to put a 10er on Liverpool winning the double. The odds were very tempting! Then I came to my senses.

If Sky are being truthful, then Liverpool are Fooked.

I suspect they are just talking rubbish.

They are basing this on a comment from a club official seemingly.

Lots of mutterings from various sources that Gerrard is not gonna be in the starting line up and may not be on the bench :(

I have a new found respect in a way for Chelsea, even tho I hate Lamps, Terry and Drogba but Guus is a legend.

I think I read somewhere that Benitez is willing to risk playing Gerrard and him being unavailable for the next 2 weeks. Its worth the gamble if hes any way close to fitness.
I think Liverpool will win but not go through. Should be a great game, im expecting goals.

As a neutral I'm really looking forward to it, I think whoever comes out on top between Essien and Mascherano could really change the game. Don't think Liverpool will go through but I can't imagine they'll make it plain sailing for Chelsea.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Could be a ruse but maybe Rafa has 'seen sense' and decided not to risk him when Yossi could start and maybe be as effective at the business end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

I honestly do not see Liverpool getting anything from this game. As good as they have shown themselves to be I still think three goals is going to be a tough task for them.

Chelsea have been fantastic under Hiddink and though they may not have been playing the prettiest football recently, it is still very effective and I think Liverpool will struggle.

As a neutral I would like to see Liverpool score first so that I can expect to see a decent game of football. If Chelsea score first then it's all over.

I know people will talk about Istanbul but I just don't feel Liverpool coming away with much tonight.

Anyone know when teams will be announced?

Not the end of the world TBH, Liverpool have learned in a couple of big matches this season how to play without him.

Rafa maybe giving up hope and looking to the league ?

Jesus even if you can get 30mins he should be on the bench but to be left out completly sounds insane.

Obviously he could be injured but all reports yesterday and this afternoon pointed to him playing.

Im afraid with stevie out of this one then the only thing that will not see chelsea through is chelsea themselves.

We can only presume Rafa has seen sense and prioritised the league, no doubt he is looking at those scrappy Utd results and reckoning theres points to be made up and that Porto won't stop thier CL march so the strain could tell.

Yossi is a definite for a hat trick now.

    COME ON YOU RED MEN!

    4-2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭Mgoraf

Reina, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Skrtel, Carragher, Kuyt, Lucas, Alonso, Mascherano, Benayoun, Torres. Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Agger, Riera, Babel, Ngog.

Supporting the boys in Red today(dunno wtf i am thinking). Match should be interesting and entertaining, start up line without Gerrard and Terry :D

Debating if i should watch it in Sinnotts or head home

Gerrard out is just the impetus I needed to get on Chelsea/Barce double :D

Let's see how the bookies react to that

Liverpool are always in with a shout on the day, but I just think Chelsea will have them again.

3-1 down without Gerrard? Might lump on Chelsea

Gerrard out? Is there a source on this or just speculation.

Is Rafa maybe just playing tricks and out of nowhere he'll appear on the team sheet?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

Torres is on 47 goals so far for Liverpool (in 78 games)

If he scores a hat-trick tonight, he hits 50 - would be one sweet way to hit the 50 goals mark;)

So far he has scored 5 goals in 5 games against Chelsea, so it's not as if he doesn't know how to score against them.

Feck no Agger or Riera? Figure that formation out

    Reina
    Arb -Carra-Skrtel- Aurelio
    Masch- Alonso
    Kuyt- Lucas- Benayoun
    Torres

I would have thought it would be Riera on the left with Benni in the centre.
    Hmmm

    I would have gone for

    Reina
    Arb-Carra-Agger-Insua
    Masch-Alonso
    Kuyt-Benni-Riera
    Torres

Shame Insua aint in the CL squad

He is injured---His adductor muscle. If the type of injury that would keep him out for the rest of the season should he aggrevate it more. No point playing him while injured, it would be senseless

Optimism has been shattered somewhat. Still though, should be a good game :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

I think Lucas might be playing behind Torres played there before against Chelsea in the Carling Cup. If its 4-4-1-1
If its 4-3-3 with Yossi on the left there wont be much width:(.
Agger and Riera should be playing, i would probably even play Insua at LB but I think hes not even in the squad.
