Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not entirely happy with the inclusion of Lucas. Thought Rafa would have replaced Gerrard with a more attack minded player. Unfortunately, without Gerrard we have little hope.

Jesus even if you can get 30mins he should be on the bench but to be left out completly sounds insane.

Obviously he could be injured but all reports yesterday and this afternoon pointed to him playing.

Maybe 'all reports' weren't accurate but Rafa chose to leave Chelsea guessing. But no, you're probably right, Rafa must be insane.

Is tonight the night that Lucas shines? He's in his favoured role if i'm correct..
    Whats he to score anytime?:D

    Now we are massive underdogs!

Lucas is a better attacking player that he is a defensive one.

Thats true but I'd prefer Yossi in the hole and Riera left

UNLESS - Rafa is playing 4-3-3 ? In which case, the inclusion of Lucas makes sense.

    Reina

    Arbeloa
    Carra
    Skrtel
    Aurelio

    Lucas----Mascherano---Alonso

    Kuyt
    Torres
    Yossi

Lucas is in his right position tonight, so after this game Lucas will be a god:D

    Fair play to Phil Thompson.

Dont get me wrong, I like Lucas. Its just that hes not much of a goal threat. The only goal real threats in that team are Torres, Kuyt and Yossi.

Lucas is 28/1 to score first tonight. I'll have some of that.

    Edit: 35/1 on Betfair :)

Sky Sports News had the formation at 443.

Yeah, Lucas mightn't get the goals (although he has a shot on him alright) but he may be able to sneak some through balls for Torres to run onto.

Don't think Liverpool stand any chance tonight.

Yes but we need 3 goals. Surely the more goal scorers on the pitch the better ? I would have liked to see Riera or Babel on rather than Lucas in this situation.

I think Liverpool are going to start slowly with Benitez hoping to go in at halftime with a 0-1 and then go for it in the second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    LoL at Dunphy.

"Gerrard missing for Liverpool would be like Leinster missing Brian O'Driscoll and replacing him with me"

    Eamo is a legend.

Drogba to kill this tie early on, without Gerrard I can't see where L'Pool will get their drive from. More of the same from the 1st leg.

Drogba to score in 90mins 6/4

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 119 ✭✭Pigman III

I hope Chelsea learned their lesson from Bolton's easy-to-score few minutes at the weekend, Gerrard is a huge miss for Liverpool, same goes for Terry for Chelsea, but they can replace him will a good defender in Alex, whereas Lucas is Gerrards replacement, not a great sounding thing on Liverpools part. Liverpool's hopes should be resting on Torres and a Yossi supersub if needed.

I can't see the Liverpool winning this game than anymore than a goal, therefor, being knocked out, but I expect Chelsea to win by about 2 goals.

Unless we are playing the 4-3-3 then I can see Lucas having a big impact tonight.
This is the second time I can ever remember him playing in his natural position for us.
(And he scored the last time!)

    It's very strange.

I can see Kuyt and Benni playing very far up the field, and Lucas just before Masch and Xabi.

No Gerrard is gutwrenching, but nothing new.

I want to see Lucas do well, just to shut Dunphy the fu€k up!
The guy is an insulting €ock sometimes!
His dismissive attitude towards Lucas is disgusting!

Agree, would love to see Lucas show what he can do, further up the field where he is more natural.

I think this is great cos there is NO PRESSURE, going to enjoy the spectacle until its beyond Liverpool and then flick over for Bayern/Barca.

Wasn't Dunphy calling Essien a 20 million pound useless muscle man a couple of seasons ago?

The way he was talking tonight, you'd swear he was Kaka.

Doesnt really make a difference tho. Liverpool need to score 3 regardless. Its too much for them imo with the team selection.

    Maybe it is obvious but I imagine it'll be like this;

    Reina

    Skrtel
    Carragher

    --Arbeloa
    Aurelio--

    Mascherano

    Lucas
    Alonso

    Benayoun

    Kuyt
    Torres

    "stats mean nothing bill"
So if you concede 100 goals a season with man marking, and 3 with zonal, the stats mean nothing! Giles is a plank!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Karmafaerie

    Anyone watching on RTE?

Someone pointed out that only 6 of the goals Liverpool conceded this season were from set pieces.
    4 corners.
    2 frees.

    So 28%.
The boys didn't know what to say.

Giles said "stats can prove anything" FFS!!!
Dunphy said it means nothing, wait a minute, that's way bellow the averrage that is around 40% but.........

Then Houghton jumped in and said that he used to play zonal year ago.

    So what?!!

    The best was Eamon though.
He starts saying it means nothing, corrects himself saying that it's well bellow the average, then just stopped.:p

When it goes back to giles he said if they had time they could prove it.
It's 6 goals Jonny, it'd take less than a minute to show them all!
But no, he just kept saying "you can prove anything with facts"!

    Hillarious!

Yup - The complete stupiditiy of the "statistics don't mean anything" quote, was great. ;)

I always love when in an arguement that people whose case is shown to be wrong, fall back on the whole statistics don't mean a thing stance.

Here's another statistic - Goals conceeded by Livepool in the League 21, which is the same as Utd and one more than Chelsea. Yup zonal mark is at fault

We'll see who is right after the game, not having Gerrard on the bench to use as an impact sub is ludicrous.

I wanted to slap them! Did you see the goals they showed Torres scoring against blackburn? Man marking for his header didn't work too well!
