Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Early team news apparently:

    van der sar
    oshea
    vidic
    rio
    evra
    anderson
    carrick
    giggs
    ronaldo
    rooney
    berbatov

No freaking idea how that could line up. We could see Giggs in midfield [with Anderson on the left], left wing [with Anderson in the middle] or up front[with Rooney on the left]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭thegen

Utd to win 2 nil. Easy game for them. They just thought they had to turn up in 1st leg to win. This time they will perform

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

Giggs left, Ronaldo right, Carrick and Anderson centre?

Could be Rooney out left, with Giggs in the centre and Berbatov up front on his own.

Looks like 4-2-3-1 then probably with either Rooney or Giggs on left like you said.

Lads are we just making up teams or is this from some sort of official source?

I'd say you're spon on deisedevil, with Rooney on the left as poor Ryan doesn't have the legs anymore.

Sky Sports news are saying nothing about this and they just went live to their reporter in Porto.

I hate rooney out on the left. I think hes best playing just behind the forwards making plays, and then he's always on for a shot.

    +1
Especially with the form he is in at the moment, he's our best chance of a goal.

I'd guess Fergie would want Ando going box to box and tackling, Giggs in an attacking role.

My guess (as others have posted):

    VDS
    Shea--Vidic--Ferdiand--Evra
    Ando---Carrick
    Ronnie----Rooney
    Giggs
    Berbatov

Maybe Giggs and Rooney switching places from time to time.

i predict (and hope) that utd get through.
want ya to get all the way to the final tbh... only to be soundly beaten 4-0 by barcelona. then i will get on my harley and ride into the sunset with Natalie Portman in tow while listening to Journey - Anyway You Want It

They show a CL game every night they are on, why would tonight be any different.

Just to be sure though, here it is from their site:

    19:00 Champions League Live
Live coverage of Manchester Utd v Porto at Old Trafford (kick-off 7.45pm), presented by Bill O'Herlihy. With highlights of Arsenal v Villareal

Man Utd to get back on track with solid defending, and a few goals :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,677 ✭✭✭Chong

I have to be honest I wont be so bothered if we get put out tonight, of course I will be happy to get through but I would love most of all to win the EPL again this year. I suppose in saying that I would love to win both but I just think we havent got what it takes this year to do that.

I agree. Prem is obviously the main target.

but 18-18 is very big too

    hard choice

Tbh headshot for me, its always the league, and a chance to finally equal Liverpool is the ultimate goal. CL is a nice bonus as ever, Prem is our bread and butter, and I know that if we win tonight its going to affect our league games massively.

At 9's though, I'm not arsed tbh

    Loved this post on redcafe:
    I'm backing Anderson to score.
With actual money? Or just hypothetically?

Porto: Helton, Sapunaru, Rolando, Alves, Cissokho, Gonzalez, Fernando, Meireles, Lopez, Hulk, Rodriguez. Subs: Nuno, Stepanov, Guarin, Mariano Gonzalez, Costa, Madrid, Farias.
Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Anderson, Carrick, Giggs, Ronaldo, Berbatov, Rooney. Subs: Foster, Neville, Evans, Nani, Scholes, Tevez, Macheda.

Surprised Farias not starting as he has 3 goals in last two league games.

I'd expect a 4-5-1. Try and keep the ball, don't leave ourselves exposed on the counter attack and try and score. At 60 mins maybe 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 and take a bit more risk if still 0-0.
