Replacement for Nokia N96

I destroyed my Nokia N96 at the weekend and tried to claim a new one today on my Vodafone insurance. Unfortunately it has been discontinued.

They said I can have pretty much any phone as a replacement but that there are currently no similiar Nokia phones available. The best they could offer was the Nokia Express Music 5800.

Other options were Samsung Tocco S8300 or the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Both of those look pretty good but it would mean changing to a new operating system.

The features I used most on the N96 were the camera, video camera, Video player, music player, e-mail (reading as opposed to writing), calendar and Quick Office (mostly excel).

Anyone any thoughts on what would be a good replacement?

All three phones are very similar. The samsung has a better camera than the other. But i personally wouldn't go for the samsung, would between the other two, or a N95?? Not an option?

The 5800 and the Xperia X1 are very similar. Will both do what you require. The 5800 has a slightly bigger screen and looks better imo. Also you mention the operating system, since you had the N96 which uses Symbian Series 60 the same as the 5800, i think this is your best choice.

Ask about an N95 if you dont want a touchscreen phone.

N95 and N96 are both discontinued so neither are an option.

I notice the Samsung has no WiFi either which is strange.

It's not limited to those 3 phones. It's any phone btw.

Do you like the touchscreen? Did you look at the 5800?
Or you could wait for the N85, good upcoming phone.

I used to have a touchscreen/stylus on my old p990i. I did find it useful, especially for Excel.

That looks pretty good actually. Better camera, faster processor.

Seeing as it's called the N86, in what way is it worse? It's appears to only have a slightly smaller screen and less memory...

They haven't said yes or no yet. You could ask on the vodafone forum but im not sure if it will be much use, or they might tell you about the new N86 mini :D

The N96 has been discontinued already? It's barely out a year!

    Too expensive
Poorer build quality than either N95
