Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BMW Halls Ignition Sensor Repeated Failure

Hi, having electronic problems with a 1995 BMW R1100R. 3 months ago the bike was running poorly, was difficult to start, and eventually failed to start.
I discovered that the problem was with the Halls Ignition Sensors. I replaced the faulty sensor with a genuine Bosch unit. This cleared up all running problems until a few days ago. It has now developed the same problems, I tested the sensor and it has failed again.
What concerns me now is that there may be another fault in the electrical system causing the sensor to fail.
If anyone has experienced similar issues I would greatly appreciate help in diagnosis.

Is there any known issue with that sensor? I ask because on my old VW Passat the Bosch manufactured Mass Air Flow sensor was a known failure point. I replaced mine with a 'close enough' Pierburg unit (intended for MB engines) in the end and it has worked for years. I'd scour the net to see if there's a known fault before assuming it's something else stressing the sensor.

You have to check every relevent connection and unit in between. there is a new bmw independant garage opening on the may bank holiday weekend afaik. Have fun with it. Sounds like a pain in the arse.
