Let this poll be decisive in what is the communitys favourite mag type for their airsofting needs. Feel free to point out all the pros and cons of each mag, but please dont say something like "high caps are f***ing useless they hear ya comin a mile away and they dont load crap" or <snip> etc. I'm sure we can all be civil............. apart from a couple of the R.A.T.S. maybe:p

Votes are public by the way so if for some reason your ashamed of your preference then dont vote!

I'm sure this has already been done but I'm new to boards so sorry.

*Note: Bad spelling was intentional for the examples, sorry if I offended anyone(?)

Ahh I thought Hiveminds post pretty much covered this...Simple really mid caps suit all our needs, and drum mags only for support weapons.

    Mid Caps
    I don't understand the fondness to mid-caps.
If you're going to carry that much in a mag, why not go full hog and use high caps?

    Choose your words carefully lads.
I've had to snip 2 offensive words already.
I don't see much point to this thread at all it's really been done to death already...........

I don't understand the fondness for high caps. If you're going to carry that much in a mag, why not use more robust, reliable, lighter and quieter mid caps?
    (/sarcasm)

The argument is circular, there are fans of each camp and I wouldn't detract from anyone's choice. I prefer low caps and mid caps because they never fail me and they don't rattle like a maracca on a paint mixer. I also enjoy the panic of having to reload, which happens (obviously) considerably less using high caps.
Each to their own though. They're balanced in their various pros and cons. The one I really do not understand, and rather grates me, is box mags. Specifically ultra-high capacity box mag on a rifle/smg. That, I have some serious issues with.

I don't understand the fondness for box-mags. If you're going to carry that much ammo in a mag, why not just bring a wheel barrow of bbs and a snow shovel?

    Mid Caps
I just don't get it because realism if clearly a HUGE part of the game.

The smallest mid cap I can find off hand carries 120 rounds.
    Hardly realistic etc... etc...

And Sam, shut your pie hole. Normal AEG? Like an AK.
The AK is the pykie of the gun world!

    c mags for lief yo.

in reality a healthy mix of all of the above was my vote, honestly i dont see the problem with hi caps, sure they hold more but in most cases you have to wind every 100 rounds or less(exception being some stanags that will put out the whole 350 on a full wind)

I dont airsoft for the realism, I do it for the sport, the realism is just a fun addition. That said I have yet to play a proper "real" style game.

Then again, when you take into account the fact that you can often end up with bb's falling short, people not feeling/taking hits, and the fact that people can be more reckless, and stand up out of cover if their not being kept down with a ton of bb's, since their lives arent at stake, the extra ammo is quite often needed

Well snow shovels dont have great range or accuracy, and the sites may hav a problem with you bringing one into a game

The realism is only as much a part of the game as you want it to be. You and ten mates could rock around a site with MP5's with box mags (barf) wearing your favourite soccer jerseys and have a ball. Similarly, you could spend a fortune on real-issue uniforms and vests, tricked out rifles that are identical to their RS counterparts right down to weight, rate of fire and magazine capacity and still have a cracking day out.
The beauty of airsoft isn't that it's hardcore realistic re-enactment, it's that it's universally accessible to all levels of player from the casual walk on who wants to spray a few mags, to the regular skirmisher who has probably too much kit, through to the hardcore milsim players who prefer to keep everything as realistic as they can. The one thing everyone has in common is that they're there for a laugh and enjoy themselves, regardless of mag choice.

    Edit:
By the way, a mid-cap by it's nature will always be around 100-150 rounds. That's between 1/2 and 1/4 of a high cap (depending on your gun). The next step down is low-caps (my personal choice) which are around 50-70 rounds. That's why you're not finding mids any lower than you've seen.

I can see it now, your creeping along with your team being all tactical, when all of a sudden some nut comes running at you with a snow shovel screaming "FREEDOM!!!!!!"

Only to get shot by the entire team, shout "hit" and return to respawn

Oh I'm an electric drum mag man myself

You can't just shout hit, you have to shout hit then do an EPIC slow motion fall to your knees and collapse to the ground

I think it's more than that personally.
I feel that if I wanted to do the ten mates in soccer jerseys thing, I might aswell be doing paintball.
Overloaded mags, I find, decrease the challenge and subsequently, the enjoyment.

But ofcourse. that's my opinion etc...

I use high caps because thats all i dont have the readys availble to buy mid's or low's...

what i will say yeah useing low caps does keep the authenticity Of the game and quit rightly so

but when your shooting some one and that person does'nt take there hit's...
You'd use maybe to lows on the person before eather you bark at them or a marshal comes a long.

that means your only down to say 5 lows left useually people carry seven (i think) 2 low cap's down on one person i agree they should be used but when you have player's who dont call hits high caps can be very handy so its a good idea but people have to be honest at the end of the day and not every one is !

drum mags on anything but a support wepon is a bit over kill as are box mags...
