Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys. I was just looking at the Samsung WB500 and I was wondering what you guys thought of this as a camera for just starting off.

I don't know much about photography, but I never really heard of Samsung in the photography world. Are they well respected in this field, or would I be better off going for a more well known camera brand like Canon?

What do you guys think of the camera for just an inexpensive starter camera? Worth €230?

I don't know a thing about samsung as a camera company, but I would say you will be happier in the long run buying the best camera you can afford. Even if you wind up only using for family snapshots. Better the camera, better the photos. Better the optics, better the pictures.:)

Well I supply Samsung with a lot of the technology that fits into this camera so I could be accused of being a bit biased ... but then again we also supply Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus and a whole host of others ...

We test a lot of different camera models including this particular one (since it contains our image processing software) ... it performs pretty well and is packed with features. Samsung Point and Shoot cameras are basically very good from an image quality perspective ... the main criticism I hear from our QA guys is usually in the user interface which is a bit confusing on a lot of their gear. Many of the features are buried in menus ...

The suitability of a camera is based on your usage, which you have not provided. If you just want a camera for general usage ... this one is fine ... if you are starting out as a hobbyist like many of us in this forum then you need something with better manual control.
