    Hi everyone

I made a reservation for here for the <mod snip> day, but its also my 1 year anniversary being with the other half. Basically looking for somewhere nice :)

Took a look at the stuff online, doesnt look the cheapest, but im not really looking for the cheapest. Any reviews on the food, staff, layout, etc?

    Any recommendations for food?

Also, is there better to go to? I liked the look of this place cause it central and has a rep for being one of the nicer places to go...

Hi Africa, I edited your post because you are not allowed to mention the event I snipped out. :)

    As for Fire restaurant.

I love the place, I think it's one of the best in Dublin.

Then again, I would say that, one of my best friends is the second-in-command chef :)

I like any of the fish-based starters, or the Goats Cheese.

The "Naples style flatbreads" are pizzas :)

    It's a nice restaurant.

Not the biggest seafood eater myself, and the plan is for lunch. Lamb skewers look interesting :)

The main is the hard part though...

thats the menu there. What you think?

Also, do you think there would be any problem with me bringing my own bottle of champagne?

Stop mentioning them, or I'll have to issue infractions and/or bans, and I don't want to do that.
    :)

    *************************************

    What date are you going?

The Lamb Skewers are nice, I've had them before alright.

The Piri Piri Chicken is also nice, actually, that lunch menu is kind of limited really isn't it? I must get on to my friend about that.

If you want, I can call my friend and ask about the Champers?

He won't be up/in work yet, but I could try after Lunch time.

I love the food in Fire

Kudos to your friend Des if he is a chef there, tis one of my favourite restaurants although I don't egt to go there very often

I love the lamb skewers and the pork for the main

Have never had a complaint from anyone who has been there with me

Yeah sure :P Not a mention more!

Its the 8th. Table is booked for 2.30.
I was thinking it was a bit limited myself! Like there is no pizza or such on the menu. Chicken looks good though, i love Nando's down in Dundrum which specialises in Piri Piri Chicken.

If you could ask about the champagne, that would be like, waaay more than i expected :)

    Thanks a lot :D

Good to see two good reviews already. Never been myself and want to go somewhere special for it.

You just posted a lunch menu. Are you going for Lunch.?

I've been to Fire once in the evening. For the price it was not worth it to be honest.

If you are going for lunch then you've a great choice. Most of the top top places do very reasonable lunches. Town Bar & Grill do a Lunch for about €30, very hard to beat. Thorton's Lunch is only €25. Lecrivain also do a €25 lunch (weekdays, not sure what it costs on weekends). Even with extras (extra course, supplement for steak, etc.) all are a steal. All central. all great, all good for an occasion.

www.menupages.ie is a good place to research these things

I'd have said go to Eden :D

Was in fire 2ish weeks ago for lunch and wasn't impressed unfortunately.

Maybe it was just a bad day.

The 8th at 2.30 you say.

Hmm, I'll report back here with what he says.

If he says no, I'll try twist his arm, say my "friend" is coming in and could he get a blind eye turned to it.
    :)

Well its an important thing, the bottle of champers has been kept for the event. Would be a shame for money hungry restaurants to forbid it when we are coming to pay for some good food anyway.

A lot of places do allow it.

Not only this but after we drink the bottle, i can see us moving onto another anyway :D

I'd be surprised if any restaurant would not allow you bring your own bottle. Doubly so given the circumstance. They will probably charge corkage though.

Have you thought about how you are going to get it there i.e. so that it is chilled properly when you open it.

When I'm talking to him about the champagne for this lady, I'll arrange it so.

In Fallon and Byrne recently and saw that they charge a tenner on wine you buy from the shelf (as opposed to menu), which I though was taking the píss.
€24 is a joke, I'd ask to talk to a manager, tell them to cop themselves on. They may be looking at the corkage as a % of the price of the bottle.

The food ... and the service ...

As I said maybe it was just one of those days was the early afternoon

( in contrast Fallon & Byrnes I quite liked ... Eden I loved ... Yamamori I loved the first time I went afterwards it was so so ) ... and so on

Also .. I'm so not impressed by €24 ??? corkage fee

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭Africa

They have no idea what im bringing, so they cant say its a percentage of the bottle. Its not even the best bottle of champagne out there, just has a bit of nostalgia behind it.

Seriously im not going to bother if they think that 24 quid (and i bet they say 21% on top of that) is ok for corkage. Ill pay a tenner. 15 at most. Not 24. Im already planning to pay over 80 - 100 quid for the meal.

What do you think i should say to try get this down? Ive been speaking to the receptionist who said this is what the manager said...

    24 quid is a lot.

    Leave it with me ;)
