Announced earlier today. Peter Sunde, Gottfrid Svartholm, Fredrik Nejj and Carl Lundstrom (That one surprised me to be honest, I thought he would have been acquitted) all guilty of "Assisting in making copyright infringement available".
Each defendant recieves 1 year in jail, and 3.62 million dollars must be paid in damages, equally between the four.
Most likely won't happen (for a while at least) as Peter Sunde has already stated that they intend to appeal the trial, so it will go to the Swedish Appeals Court (sort of a second tier court).
Thoughts everyone? Good verdict? Bad verdict?

Not politics but the right descision, copyright theft is copyright theft. Interesting that jail sentences have been handed down though.

How much blame lies with those that facilitate the theft though?

Is it up to the buy and sell say to make sure every item listed for sale in its pages is not stolen?

No more than Vodafone should be charged as an accessory to murder if a "hit" is arranged over their mobile system. A "neutral" system can be exploited by the criminal.

so why then do believe it is the right decision?
this sort of 'crime' seems to involve three parties
    1. Technological innovator and producer. Person who invented paper and makes sheets of it. Person who developed protocol of bittorrent and wrote a program that implements it. inventor and developers of mobile phone technology
    2. Facilitator. Body who helps the infringement by allowing communication. Classified advertisements, vodaphone or pirate bay website
    3. Thief. Person who handles the 'stolen' goods

Pirate bay seems to me to be a facilitator something like vodaphone is by having a network that criminals could communicate on. So why are they responsible for the copyright infringement of the user king kong say?

Not a political topic per se.
