Help me save my knees!

    Hi,

I am looking at changing my running shoes and I am VERY condused; at present I wear Asics GT2130 and they are just ok on the 5K, bad on the 10K and terrible on the 15K......I could run further but my knees can barely take the 15K! I am a light over-pronator, more on my right foot than the left one........

.....can anybody suggest a style of shoes or even a specific model that will help me spare my knees?.....would it be enough to add an insole to my existing one and if so what type?.....

IMO the best people to discuss this with are either a physio or specialist in sports footwear like Amphibian King in Bray...

Got a pair of runners (Brooks) fitted by Ash in runways.ie with help of gaist analysis. I was having knee/hips problems at the time. Physio rubber stamped his choice of shoes. Knee/hips problems slowly dissapear, i guess, combinasion of the right exercices and right shoes.
I ran Paris marathon 2 weeks ago, knee/hip were fine, and did not get any blister (did not get any blisters during training either).

sounds like the 2130 is givving you too much support. Its a fine balance when picking the correct shoe and by the sounds of it you know what your foot strike is like but yet you are in the 2130.
where did you get this assesed?
studies done would suggest that after 35-40mins of running our biomechanics start to break down and therfore sometime s an assement done in a so called specialist running store might not be 100% accurate.

I think these are the same as the ones I used to have, I used them for about a month before I couldn't run in them anymore because of the pain they were causing me. I went to the physio, he advised me to switch to the Nike Pegasus which I find to be brilliant, the cushioning in them is great.

But like previous posters said, it's probably best to talk to a physio about it first.

I had major problems with knee pain after long runs earlier this year - after talking to my physio he advised me to wear Orthotic Insoles in my runners.

Got the Orthotics a few years ago now - cant run long distance without them now! Work wonders...

.....that's precisely when I get the pain....30-40 mins into the run....I bought my shoes from wiggle.co.uk and according to the "wet foot test" the 2130 were the right shoes for me....obviously not!....I have now booked a test with Amphibian King in Bray....I am sceptical about it but we'll see......I am afraid I will find the usual rip-off prices but if they are competent I wouldn't mind spending the extra money.......at this stage I either reduce my running distances or I get the issue properly sorted....!....I don't have yet serious knee problems...so I am pretty sure that the right pair of shoes is what I need....:( ......muscle imbalances could be the other half of the problem:confused:.........funny thing is that the more I run and the more I enjoy it.........and the more it hurts:mad:......

I have use Amphibian King in Bray a number of times and their prices certainly match other shops in Dublin such as Arnotts etc. In addition I get a tenner off for each new shoe purchase so this saves again.

They won't be as cheap as an online purchase but you do get get excellent advise, analysis and have the comfort of trying out the shoes there and then.
