I think sligo is becoming a kip and am only here because of the global meltdown
a lot of what you say about what sligo is like (esp compared to what it used to be like) is true

i got dogs abuse on here couple of years ago for pointing out things that would go wrong with Sligo if the ecomony slowed (they have happened:eek:)

Its a small town, small towns have small town mentality's
Sligo once upon a time didnt have small time mentality, various goverment decisions have screwed the place over the years (moving people out to the sticks etc)

    BUT
You moved to a small village in the west of ireland outside a small town
    What did you expect? exactly?
I think you been watching way too many 50's american movies!

BTW Galway isnt half the town it claims to be!

and yer married so it wont matter to you but its known that a LOTof people
in their 30's who are single in Galway (espically women) are people
with various (er how to put it best) minor mental illness's
ps lots of single people in their 30's in Galway

Yeah, Galway's not all it's cracked up to be. It suits me better than Sligo ever did, but I just don't think I'm cut out to live in this country.

    Why?
why do i need to provide figures?

galway attracts hippies and dropouts, it adverttises the fact
you met many hippies and dropouts in their 30's?

Minor mental illness not equal serial killers btw

    Internet; Serious business!

Fair enough. I'll assume the huge amount of people you just insulted, won't be bothered, because you don't have any facts to back it up with.

I can't be arsed with this but... you have insulted:

People with mental illness (not axe murderers though, lol, just a bit mental..)

    Women

    People from Galway

Hippies/dropouts (aren't they the same thing?)

    People in their 30's

Anyone else you missed with these "facts"?

Most of the people ive been told of are people who have MOVED to galway
    so not abusing Galway people
    covered!

    Im in my 30's
    covered!

    Call a dropout a hippie
    Call a hippie a dropout
ur the one abusing people their!!!

Pointing out that some people with mental illness live in a place is recgonizing that they exist, how is that abusing them
Not as if im ignoring them!
    Covered!

    Women
    how did i abuse women?
52% of the population, % of single women increase's in larger urban areas
    actually dont bother

I wont be replying, dont know why i did in the first place tbh

U really do like blowing things out of proportion dont you :o

as i said, whatever is annoying you isnt me!

What has you so wound up as well elshambo?

If I was in my 30's, single and lived in Galway, I would take great offence to this so it's not just you Tequila

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,392 ✭✭✭TequilaMockingBird

    Oh! Wait! Before you go..

You also insulted Xiney and "single women".

    Now. Off you trot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,797 ✭✭✭bobcar61

It might actually be you Elshambo because you are starting to annoy me aswell.

Watch the tone your using there, and that goes towards the two of ye but predominately you elshambo.

This is about Carraroe retail park not about people from Galway in their 30's with mental illnesses.

Warning for everyone here who continues to talk about people with mental ilnesses.
If you dare myself and Xiney are not afraid to hand out a few beatings bans

    Back on topic please

When or if we get out of this recession, how do you think the retail park will cope then.
Is there any chance of new shops opening there when we come out of the economic decline.
If the council were to allow a supermarket to built up there tomorrow how long do you think it would take for the likes of Tesco to re-apply for planning permission and do you think if a supermarket was to open up there in the morning that business amongst the other shops up there would rise.

LOL you're right I moved here out of free will. I moved here for space (since we have 17 million people on the size of munster) and I do love it here. I wouldn't move out of Ireland. The beaches and scenery are very pretty. I just miss a city nearby. And when I look at Carrick on Shannon I can't help and think "why is Sligo not looking at that?".

I expected a bit more openmindedness specially from people that think they are progressive. The village I live in is lovely and the blowinns that live here are most from city's, which helps a lot. I also am very astound by the fact that some people just refuse to look at other parts of the world and see what's happening there. And if they look ther they only see the thing that go wrong but never look at where it went right.

I did make the mistake of moving to a remote part of the country and found out that I'm a cityboy and I really can't handle a small town with it's mentality. I always saw the Irish as well traveled and asumed that a open mind came with that automaticly. I see the same discussions here as I saw about 15 years ago in Holland and Scotland.

You can take the boy out of the city but not the city out of the boy. I found this out in the past year!

Sorry bobcar I didn't read till the end before I put my post in! So back on topic:

I think they should look at Carrick and learn a lesson. I was in Carrick on a Saturday and it was buzzing. Even with all the retail park outside of the town center, and shock horror some of them are not on walking distance! But they have 2 super markets!!! Mmmm maybe that has someting to do with the fact that it is working there? No I have to be wrong?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Xiney

Jesus this thread went a bit crazy.

for what it's worth, I figure anyone who had any opinions on the retail park had already stated them (probably in the 14 threads previous on the subject, tbh) so I thought, "fine to let the thread continue in some other related vein"

At this stage I'm still a little  at what happened to this thread... but I think locking it is best. We all said what we had to say on the actual subject ages ago.
