Cheap Garden?

    Can anyone advise me on the cheapest way to 'do up' my garden.

    I'm looking for a cheap quick fix as it will only be for a few years. I need to cover up an area about 20 m squared that has some old foundations, broken concrete and uneven ground.

    All suggestions appreciated.

    Well I reckon paving is too expensive. Was thinking of decking made from pallets, as OH can do that but don't know how cheap that would be or where to get cheap pallets.

    Or I see a lot of people talking about bark chippings here so maybe that or a load of sand??

    it really depends on whether you want to use it or not? Why not turn it into a usable space - a nice garden can really increase the value of a property and help sell it.

    clearing out the rubble/foundations etc, would be labour intensive but the cost would be that of a skip, some good gloves and maybe a pickaxe so not expensive.

    that would give you a blank canvas so to speak and you could take it from there.

    bark chips are used as a garden mulch in spring generally on flower beds - they help keep in moisture and keep in weeds. You could spread them on the area but you'd have to level it first. they don't last indefinitely though.

    I really wouldn't advocate sand for anything other than a sandpit - it will just get dragged into your house, sticks to everything and will generally drive you mad

    You will find flattening it, maybe a layer of topsoil and then laying grass seed may well be the cheapest option.

    used pallets for decking will not look great and will not last..........
