    We're not doing too badly, although the data was from 2006 and the situation with regard to unemployment has dramatically changed since then which would change our scores.

    9th overall, but lower in many categories:

    - On health (including indicators on infant mortality and birth weight), Ireland scores 14th;
    - On subjective wellbeing (including indicators on how children feel about their
    lives and health), Ireland scores scores 10th;
    - On children’s relationships (including indicators on how easy children say
    they find it to talk to their parents and get on with their classmates) Ireland scores 14th;
    - On material resources (including indicators on child poverty), Ireland scores 20th
    - On behaviour and risk (including indicators on violence and risk behaviour),
    Ireland scores 12th;
    - On education (including indicators on achievement and youth inactivity), Ireland scores 5th;
    - On housing and environment (including indicators on overcrowding and
    housing problems), Ireland scores 2nd

    But lower in many categories? Are you for real. We are in the top third of all countries in europe and your still trying to put a bad light on it? Seriously people need to stop trying to make everything including good news look terrible. Be happy the glass is half full! Last week a headline read " 32 % support nationalisation of all irish banks" . It didn't say for instance that 62 % object, the MAJORITY!

    Yes, I am for real....

    I think there is a lot of space for improvement in this country when it comes to children, and certainly wouldn't want people to look at this and think it is all OK.
