It seems there are three types of people on the dole now...

The unemployable who have never worked...spongers and wasters.

People who have worked and want to take anything at all(in which case they wont be on the dole for long and fair play)

Professional student types who've never done a proper day's work in thier lives who'd rather waste the taxpayers' money while they wait for a job they feel isnt "beneath them" to be handed to them on a plate.

They'll be waiting along bloody time, nobody owes anybody else a living, the sooner they cut the dole for people who havnt been proven to be looking for work the better.
That's more than three types of people.

The one paying taxes that funds your dole money?

Not all, but most of the recently unemployed will be on whats call jobseekers benefit. To qualify they would have to have made at least 260 PRSI contributions. They will be on this benefit for a maximum of 12 months. So in affect they get back what they put in. It has nothing to do with you are your taxes.

Go now brother Degz. You needz poarn ;)

Porno is your anser to everything!Send me some then!

In all seriousness, porno is a great way to make money.
You could set up a website dedicated to lets say women smoking and charge weirdos a monthly premium to get thier jollies out of having virtual smoke blown at them.
There was a bloke on telly a while back who makes 19 grand a month from pay per view webcasts of women pissing..not on each other..just pissing on the floor.

    Dole short term.

    Job in the long run.

Cant see myself sitting at home all day doing nothing.Great at the start but it would drive me nuts.At least in a job you would have some contact with people, plus you have theright to give out about all the sponges that are dole takers!;)

Life has thought me not to consider any job menial, all jobs are good jobs.

That's an institutionalised thought and it's good for a capitalist system (or rather , "economy") to have people who believe in work and believe that working is good.

We're in a situation whereby we've to sell our labour with little or no control over our work. So no, I disagree that all jobs are good.

It's still a job though, I would rather take home a pay packet for actually doing something, than sit at home and draw the dole.

If work is there, take it and wait until something better comes along.

I have done it in the past and would continue to do it to bring money in that I have earned.
Maybe it's me but I want to know I did something for it.

    Just my opinion.

Satisfaction, meaning, purpose... can you get all these from a job ? I doubt it.

No, but if it means I can earn what is in my pocket, rather than take money from taxpayers because it would demean me to take a certain job, I will take the job over the dole.

Noticed alot of Irish people selling papers at the roadside and handing out the freebies in the mornings now.

I think it's a good thing to work and not claim off the dole, whats going to look better on a CV having a job through the bad times or being on the dole.

But thier is the few who think ''Ah sure i'd be better off on the dole'', this attitude really annoys me.

I know thier is the few who want to work but cant, if i was in this situation i'd have no problem selling papers by the roadside.

    Talk is cheap.

How does one apply for the position of roadside paper salesman?

the 12 months benifit has been reduced to 9 months, then a means test to qualify for(or not) assistance
