yeah didn't mean to claim he's gone already or even definitely going just didn't use language very well there. And i'd be the last one to trust anything from the herald.

    :D

I'm delighted (Juve fan). 20 mil + Marchionni.

We've had a great mercato so far. Cannavaro for free, Diego and now Melo. If we get an attacking RB and an attacking LB I'll be over the moon. We can sell Grygera and Tiago to raise funds if needed but I think we should keep Poulsen.
    Buffon
    (Manninger)

    (Zebina) - (Legrottaglie) - (Ariaudo) - (Molinaro)
New RB - Cannavaro - Chiellini - New LB

    (Camoranesi) - (Poulsen) - (Zanetti)

    Marchisio - Melo- Sissoko

    (Giovinco)
    Diego

    (Trezeguet) - (Iaquinta)
    Amauri - Del Piero
    Sorted.

Fullbacks were badly needed and we haven't signed any! Hopefully we will, as you said, we're doing ok in the transfer window. Also agree about keeping poulsen, he's a decent player

That midfeild is relying on Deigo way too much...

I'd have Gio and Deigo playing from the start.

But that would have to mean either Diego being pushed out wide or one of the strikers being dropped for Giovinco.

It looks like Real are now after De Rossi. Roma aren't exactly in the best position financially to play hardball, so if the Alonso deal falls through I imagine this one will happen.

He's the kind of player Madrid actually need. He was pretty woeful in the Confederations Cup, but De Rossi is a top class midfielder.

Still nothing up on the Juventus website regarding Melo, in either Italian or English. Has it been confirmed? Doesn't look that way as I still harbour hope of him going to Arsenal.

It's not official yet but the Juve president said earlier today that it's just a case of dotting the I's and crossing the T's.

Apparently Madrid are interested in him as well as an investment for the future. Ever since Roma knocked out Madrid in the CL two years ago Real have had a hard-on for the Roma midfield.

Their midfield is class though. I'm amazed they wouldn't keep him or hold him in the same reverance as Totti and De Rossi when they were younger. Home grown talent tends to stay in Rome and be out of bounds in transfer dealings

Marchionni could cause the deal to fall apart.
There are shock reports that Marco Marchionni could wreck Felipe Melo’s proposed move to Juventus, letting Arsenal back in.
The Bianconeri reached a deal last night to hand over Marchionni plus cash for a total £21m to bring in Melo from Fiorentina.

According to violanews.com this evening, the move has hit a major obstacle, as Marchionni is unhappy with the contract he has been offered.

“Unfortunately we won’t be doing anything,” agent Bruno Carpeggiani told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We only asked for 200,000 Euros more than Marco was earning at Juve, but Fiorentina just don’t want to know. It’s a shame.”

There are also suggestions some people would prefer they not work it out. TuttoJuve.com reports that a clause in Melo’s contract gives agent Jose Rodriquez Baster 10 per cent if a club activated the buy-out clause using only cash.

Including Marchionni in the move, at a cost of under £5m, would in fact lose the agent a great deal of money.

Fiorentina.it claims that Arsenal were lining up a new offer for Brazilian midfielder Melo when news of the deal with Juventus emerged.

The Gunners were ready to hand over Philippe Senderos, Emmanuel Eboue and £5m.

According to italian press juve will just pay the difference if Marchionni won't go. Seems his agent is in a strop cos he's not getting a decent signing on fee.

Figures as high as €8m being mentioned on Spurs sites, which is a nice bit of business.

He was never the most talented player at our disposal, but he was always willing to do a job when asked and he never complained about bench time so I hope he gets on well when he makes the move.

ive no actual link to it but Villa sites have been reporting that Villa turned down an official approach from Spurs today for John Carew, supposidly it was mentioned on SSN but not when i was watching it.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jul/08/middlesbrough-aston-villa-stewart-downing-tuncay
Aston Villa have contacted Middlesbrough to discuss a possible double deal for Tuncay Sanli and Stewart Downing. Gareth Southgate, Boro's manager, accepts that neither the Turkey forward nor the England left-winger relish the idea of playing Championship football ahead of next summer's World Cup and is resigned to losing both players.

The Teesside club want around £20m for the pair, with Downing valued in the region of £12m and Tuncay somewhere near £8m, but Villa are understood to have a lower sum in mind. Matters are complicated by the fact that Downing will not be fit to play until October after suffering a broken foot at the end of last season.

Following a visit to a specialist this week he has been given clearance to start gym work and is due to have a pin inserted in the fracture removed during September. His surgeon is said to be "very pleased" with Downing's progress and is confident he will make a full recovery.

Martin O'Neill regards Downing as a partial replacement for Gareth Barry but any move could be delayed until January by which time the winger will have proved his fitness. Tuncay could add some much-needed guile to Villa but the Turk is also coveted by Everton, who are understood to have made an informal bid for him, well below Boro's valuation, and his old Istanbul club, Fenerbahce.

    20m is a bit steep

Absolutely, though I think Tuncay is a cracking player. Not so sold on Downing though.

    Headshot wrote: »

that was also reported in both the Boro and Brum local papers and the figures differed in all of em. the 20m is what Boro supposidly want but Villa would not be expected to pay that instead Villa would be looking to pay closer to 16m id say. Downing is expected to be back from Injury around October atm.

Tuncay is exactley the type of player Villa need a creative central link between the strikers and midfielders whilst Downing or Bentley who has also been linked would give Villa options, mean that Milner & Young dont have to play every single game and also facilitate Villa to have a quality 451/433 set up

ya I like Tuncay too,ill go as far to say he's good enough for a top 4 team even

could be a great buy for villa

Sebastien Bassong says Arsenal have made an approach to sign him, but the French defender blames Newcastle's uncertain future for blocking his exit from St James' Park.

The 22-year-old made it clear he wanted to leave following Newcastle's relegation to the Championship and has revealed his frustration after reporting for pre-season training on Tyneside this week.

'Premier League clubs are interested in me, but nothing is simple because Newcastle are in the middle of a takeover and nobody knows who will be the manager.'

Asked about Arsenal, he said: 'I can confirm there was an approach, but for now nothing is concrete.

'Foreign clubs inquired, but as it is my priority to stay in England, I didn't respond.

'Obviously, it would be better if things gathered pace, but I'm not worried.'

The 6ft 2in centre-half was one of the few players who impressed for Newcastle last season after joining for just £500,000 from Metz 12 months ago.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have also been linked to the France Under 21 international.

could be a great signing for arsenal

Real Zaragoza have completed the signing of Jermaine Pennant after his release by Liverpool. The former Arsenal youngster passed a medical with the Spanish club today and will join their bid for survival next season after being promoted back to the Primera Division.

The 26-year-old becomes Zaragoza's first signing of the summer and joins on a free transfer after agreeing a three-year deal.

"I wanted to come to Spain and I had offers from important teams in Europe but joined Real Zaragoza," said Pennant. "I really want to get started and do well in the league."

Pennant spent time on loan at Portsmouth last season after being frozen out at Anfield. The former England Under-21 winger impressed for Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan but found opportunities increasingly limited from then on.
