Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Flights in SE Asia

Going to spend 5 weeks in June and July traveling around southeast Asia and have a fair idea what our travel plans are. Have looked up flights for some for some of our main destinations eg. Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Phen to Singapore but is it like Ireland where the sooner you book, the better price you get? Have heard from people before that you can book everything when you get there but would we be better off booking now if we can?

One of the main carriers in the region airasia.com is similar to Ryanair, cheap flights but you'll get stung if you book the day before flying. If you are only in Asia for 5 weeks and know your schedule and are going to stick to it then I'd say book now, you'd more than likely get a better price now rather than waiting.

if you keep an eye on air asia daily you will get your flights for little or nothing. they are always doing deals. i was there march 2008 and got some very cheap flights because i kept an eye on the website. all the other carriers seem dear enough. air asia is basically ryanair with a smile!

Air Asia flights change price randomly like the Ryanair ones do but the more local airlines tend to be fairly fixed. I flew betwen Thailand, Laos, Singapore and Cambodia and never booked more than a week in advance. I kept an eye on the prices over the months leading up to flying and never found them to go up significantly as it got closer to the travel date. Be careful about booking too far in advance.... you don't want to tie yourself down to moving on if you're having fun somewhere.
