What is my CIT network username and password?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,579 ✭✭✭Webmonkey

Your standard windows login. So your student ID is your username and password your usual password.

what a freaking retarded system that they require everyone to log in using some ****ty web interface and to register the mac address. twould be nice if it was completely open so i could just use the SIP client on my phone and i wouldnt have to pay for things like calling people anymore

Get the MAC/Physical Address of it, try http://www.technipages.com/iphone-find-mac-address.html

Then add it to your devices on ITS, then when you open up browser, you should get the login page.

I've never logged in on a Windows pc in college. No idea what it is so!

Ah ok, what course you doing? - Strange that. Thought most would have to log in at some stage. Go to the technicians and get yourself set up.

Only computing students have access to the computers in the labs so the rest of them don't have login in details. I'm sure like most of the IT labs the WIFI will grind to a halt sooner rather that later (Lab 2.2, what a joke!)

I assumed that all students had logins since we are all part of the "Student@cit.ie" Windows domain now. I'm sure that everyone has access to the wireless just to get themselves set up.

Donagh_mc, I'm no longer in those labs thankfully, we got our own project lab down the C corrador. What course you doing?

Ah, i see. I left last year and back then my flatmates even couldn't log on to any computer in college except the genric username ones.

I was doing a BSC in computer science. Graduated last year and have moved on. Running a website now, loopthing.com.

    How about yourself?

I'm doing Software Development and Computer Networking, DNET. Almost out now, just another few weeks. Site looks good, good luck with it.

There has to be some sort of accountability and having to login for free wifi access is totally reasonable. I dont keep my wifi open at home for everyone else to use without my permission because if they download something illegally I will be the one that is held accountable.

If you are unsure of your active directory login, call over to open access with your student ID and they can give you your password. Your login is your student ID number i.e. RS0000123

I was in COM myself. Best of luck with the final few weeks of college and thanks for the best wishes :)

philiporeilly is right there has to be some accountability. Otherwise you'd have ever jackeen with a Wifi connetion hooking into it and then you'd be crying when the network ground to a halt ;)

the network should be alright. yesterday I was downloading at 10MB/s from a freaking gopher server but facebook will probably grind to a halt when all the Meeja students get on it ;)

Do they still have websense blocking sites? I could understand blocking some sites sure but when they blocked all the gaming sites!!!It made no sense.

Yep it is still here. Some sites that you require to view for educational purposes are blocked alright. I'd imagine guys in Security have a hard time with it.

Websense is still active but apparently its an issue that they are looking at at the moment. One possible suggestion which may come into effect over the summer is that each login would be allowed a specific length of time per day (1hr?) or specific times when websites would be allowed. Obviously this would not be for porn/downloading illegally etc but social websites would be allowed.

Having logins and accountability now enables the college to loosen generic restrictions on websense and make it fairer for all. Having received many legal requests/threats regarding illegal downloading, it is only right for the college and IT staff to protect themselves.
