Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just finished watching the Nascar race, anyone think Nascar dodged a major bullet with Carl Edwards crash, that could have been very very nasty.

To those who were not watching as the leaders raced to the finish Carl Edwards car was launched into the air after he was tapped by Brad Keselowski and then collied with Ryan Newman and he went into the catch fencing just a few metres from the finish line.

All this happened at max speed. If that catch fencing was not super strong, a lot of spectators would have been injured.

Thank Christ for the catch fencing, it prevented a tragedy. I was more worried at the time about Carl Edwards since the cars aren't really designed for that kind of crash. Had he hit the wall rather than the fencing he could've been done. Newman was extremely lucky too, a foot or so's difference and Edwards' car would've gone through his windscreen.

Felt sorry for Edwards at the end, himself and Keselowski drove two great laps to get to the front and compete for the win.

Is that not the whole point of it though?

It was a perfect storm of Edwards already being airborne and then being hit by Newman which launched the car higher into the air. Still, another 3 foot higher and he was in the grandstand. 8 fans suffered minor injuries. Carl himself was very, very lucky the car wasnt torn apart

Keselowski was about literally touching Edwards car for the last couple of laps.

    It looked like a limo.

    Some crashes in that race.

Thought it was funny watching Edwards still go out and ran across the line

That's how they have to race with restrictor plates, that's how they were about 8-10 mph faster than the others at the end.

The commentator mentioned Ricky Bobby when Edwards ran across the line. :P

Came across this article earlier, http://www.nascar.com/2004/news/headlines/cup/06/10/rwallace_talladega/index.html.

Not hard to see why the restrictor plates are fitted!

Even with the plates, Carl and Brad were clocked at 203mph on the white flag lap. I reckon the plates will be smaller when we get back to Talladega for the chase.

The crash looked a lot worse that it actually was. I hope Nascar don't overeact and change that race for the chase. The saftey fence worked correctly. Edwards put himself in that position in the first place

You got that right. Carl left enough room at the bottom of the track between himself and the yellow line for Keselowski to sneak in, and then when he tried to close the door Keselowski was already alongside his left-rear quarter panel and then *screech* spin.

Gutted for Montoya. Ran strong all race and then Biffle spun him to create the Little Big One

I would be afraid that NASCAR will feel obliged to make changes and reading the news releases would suggest that they may enforce stricter rules on bumping and drafting and "agressive driving".

Watching Richmond on Speed at the moment and he guy's on it are saying that NASCAR shouldn't change anything, that it was one of the best races in a long time. I would tend to agree.
