Hello there, my mate years ago switched his phoneline from eircom to BT,
but he still pays his line rental to eircom ,but the phone bill is from BT, so my question is Can he get eircom broadband? or does he have to leave BT completley.

Yes, in order to get broadband from any one vendor, they insist that they get all your business.

unfortunately, they aren't the only shower.

if you are using DSL over a phoneline, you can only have your broadband with the provider of your phone calls.

even with your line rental with eircom, if you pay BT for your calls you have to use them for broadband.

you can however move your line rental over to BT, which will be slightly cheaper (in a bundle) than the way it is now, or just move your call costs back to eircom and ditch BT altogethr and then you can get eircom broadband again.

unfortunately, it can be a bit of a painful process that could leave you without broadband for a while if you decide to switch.

It's worth mentioning that the bt broadband you already have is just an eircom broadband product with a bt label on it anyway. Moving will leave you with the same product in the end unless it's one of the bt enabled exchanges.

So unless it's customer service or better value there's not much point changing.
